Bloomington, Ind. (SMU) — The SMU women's basketball team fell to Indiana, 64-44, Thursday night in the third round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT), eliminated in the round of 16. SMU ended the season 19-15 under first-year head coach Travis Mays.

Alicia Froling led the Mustangs with 16 points and nine rebounds. Kiara Perry added 10 points, four rebounds and three steals, while Devri Owens posted eight points, shooting 2-for-4 from the 3-point line.

Indiana's Karlee McBride finished with 17 points (4-for-9 3FG) and five rebounds, while Amanda Cahill added 10 points with nine rebounds. The Hoosiers shot 44.4 percent from the field, and 42.1 percent from behind the arc.

Froling ended the season with 339 rebounds, breaking the single-season record for the second straight year. As a team, SMU set the single-season blocks record for the third straight year with 187 blocks, and set a new single-season record for rebounds with 1,409, eclipsing 1,400 for the first time in program history.

Froling ended the season averaging a team-high 14.3 points and 10.0 rebounds per game, the only player in the American Athletic Conference to average a double-double. The junior posted an SMU single-season record 16 double-doubles and was an All-AAC second team selection. McKenzie Adams ended the season scoring double figures in 24 of SMU's 34 games and averaged 12.2 points per game.

The Mustangs finished tied for fifth in the American and advanced to the AAC Championship quarterfinals before dropping to No. 3-seed USF. SMU advanced to the third round of the WNIT for the first time since 1993 and posted a 2-1 record in post season play, winning multiple postseason games for the first time since the 1993 tournament. It was the 14th postseason appearance for SMU (7 NCAA Tournaments and 7 WNIT appearances).

SMU went 13-3 record in Moody Coliseum this season, including a perfect 8-0 non-conference home record, highlighted by a 54-53 win over then-No. 19 Texas A&M. All three home losses were to teams either ranked or receiving votes, including No. 1 Connecticut.
