DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU women's swimming and diving team opens the 2017-18 season at Arkansas Saturday at 11 a.m. CT.

This will be the first time since the 2012-13 season that the Mustangs open the year outside the state of Texas, dating back to an Oct. 6, 2012, trip to the Razorback Relays in Fayetteville. Since the 1982-83 season, the Mustangs hold a 6-3 advantage over the Razorbacks in dual meets. In the most recent dual meeting, SMU fell to Arkansas, 152-148, in a neutral-site meeting at the Mean Green Duals in Denton, Texas.

The Mustangs are coming off a 4-1 dual record in 2016-17, a runner-up finish at the American Athletic Conference Championships and an appearance at the NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships. SMU returns All-AAC selections Matea Samardzic, Erin Trahan, Adrienn Santa and Brooke Pospichal, and welcomes 12 new faces to the Hilltop. Samardzic was also one of two Mustangs to qualify for the NCAA Championships, while Pospichal qualified for NCAA Zone Diving Championships.

Arkansas is coming off a 5-3 season, with a 1-3 mark in the SEC. Following a 1-3 start to the 2016-17 season, the Razorbacks went on to win four straight against Illinois, Vanderbilt, Houston and Kansas to close the year. Arkansas placed 11th at the SEC Championships and sent three swimmers to the 2017 NCAA Championships.

Live stats and updates will not be available. Check SMUMustangs.com following the event for results information.

SMU returns to the Hilltop for the 2017-18 season with the opening of the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium.  The 42,000 square foot center will be home to SMU's internationally-recognized men's and women's swimming and diving teams. The Aquatics Center features an Olympic-sized, eight-lane indoor pool with a platform diving area, including four springboards and a 10-meter tower for training and competition. Coaches' offices, men's, women's and visitor locker rooms and a classroom and meeting area will be located adjacent to the pool. Spectator seating for 800 will be on the mezzanine level. The opener is set for Nov. 3 when the Mustang men and women host LSU, and will serve as host to the 2018 American Athletic Conference Championships.
