FAYETTEVILLE, Ark (SMU) – The SMU women's swimming and diving team fell at Arkansas to open the 2017-18 season Saturday.
The Mustangs were led by senior
Matea Samardzic and sophomore
Erin Trahan, who each picked up a pair of runner-up finishes in the 149-83 loss. Trahan was second in the 50-yard freestyle (24.09) and 100-yard butterfly (56.38), while Samardzic touched second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:03.69) and 500-yard freestyle (4:59.02).
Sophomore
Eva Gliozeryte turned in third-place finishes in both the 50 free (24.16) and 100-yard backstroke (58.04), and junior
El Yellin highlighted her day by finishing third in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:29.55).
Freshman
Katie Crown led the Mustang divers, finishing sixth on 1 meter (222.83) and seventh on 3 meter (200.63). Freshman
Kara Bradley and junior
Brooke Pospichal also scored for the Ponies in diving, with Bradley earning SMU's highest finish of sixth on 3 meter (201.38), and Pospichal placing seventh on 1 meter (201.00).
SMU is back in action Sept. 29 for the UNT Relays.
