Sep 5

Official FWAA Release

DALLAS (SMU/FWAA) –
Junior Jordan Wyatt continues to pick up accolades following a standout week one performance against Stephen F. Austin on Saturday. Wyatt was named the FWAA/Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday.

Wyatt became just the sixth player in FBS history to return an interception for a touchdown and have a fumble return touchdown in the same game. The junior also registered five tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss in the 58-14 win.

His two defensive touchdowns give him four for his career, placing him in a tie for the lead among active FBS players. The 85-yard interception return places him seventh on SMU's all-time list, and was the longest on the Hilltop since 1984. Wyatt also has 208 career interception yards, the fifth most all-time at SMU.

With the weekly honor, Wyatt has been added to the Bronko Nagurski Watch List. The award honors the best defensive player in FBS football. Wyatt was also named the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

The Mustangs are back in action Saturday when they host North Texas at 6 p.m. Visit gethereforgameday.com for game and ticket information.
