LAST GAME (L, 66-64 vs Temple on Jan. 10): SMUMustangs.com: DALLAS (SMU) - For the first time in 700 days, SMU came up on the short end of the scoreboard at Moody Coliseum, falling to Temple, 66-64, on Wednesday night. The loss was head coach
Tim Jankovich's first at Moody and ended SMU's 33-straight home winning streak, which was the second-longest home streak in program history. It took all 40 minutes of the game for the Owls to seal the win, as the Mustangs stormed back from a 13-point second-half deficit. Trailing 56-43 with 10:18 remaining in the second half, SMU used a 17-3 run to take the lead in the final minutes. However, Temple's offense found its footing, hitting its last three attempts to hold on for the win. After the Owls' go-ahead basket with 1.3 seconds remaining, time expired before the Mustangs were able to get a shot attempt up.
Shake Milton, who was presented a commemorative ball for joining the 1,000-point club at SMU before the game, was the catalyst for SMU's comeback attempt over the final 10 minutes. Milton scored 16 of SMU's 36 in the second half alone on 5-of-7 shooting. For the game as a hole, Milton finished with game-highs of 25 points and five assists. It was the sixth time this season Milton has eclipsed 20 points.
Jarrey Foster and
Ben Emelogu II each provided 11 apiece for the Mustangs to join Milton in double-figures. Foster was on the receiving end of two alley-oops that helped energize the Mustangs and the Moody crowd during the second-half comeback attempt.
