GREELEY, Colo. (SMU) – The Mustangs fell on the road to Northern Colorado, 58-57, in a tight contest decided in the final seconds on Saturday afternoon.
Alicia Froling hit two free throws with 39 seconds left in the game to send the Mustangs ahead but the Bears capitalized on their final possession of the game. Ali Meyer hit a layup with four seconds left that put UNC on top. The Mustangs were unable to match and fell to 5-4 on the season, the Bears improved to 4-3.
In the early-going, SMU held a one-point edge after the first half of play, aided by forcing nine Bear turnovers in the half. Northern Colorado took the momentum in the third, and led by as many as seven, but the Mustangs were able to erase that lead by going on a 8-0 to close out the period. SMU extended the run into the fourth keeping the Bears off the board for 6:18 of game time and putting the Mustangs up seven in the final period.
UNC answered midway through the fourth going on a run of its own, erasing the lead and evening the score before the back-and-forth final five minutes. The game featured 12 lead changes including the two in the last 35 seconds.
The freshman Mustang contingent contributed 30 of the 57 points in the game.
Amber Bacon led the way with a 16-point outing.

Amber Bacon, Froling finished the game with a dozen points and came one board shy of her seventh double-double of the season, which would have tied her for the NCAA lead.
Northern Colorado was led by Micayla Isenbart who scored 20 points, hitting 5-of-7 from behind the arc. Meyer added 13 rebounds.
Coming up, the Mustangs will have a break from competition before traveling to Houston to take on Rice, Dec. 15.
