SMU Picks Up First Road Win Against UC Santa Barbara

Box Score SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (SMU) – The Mustangs (6-5) defeated UC Santa Barbara, 4-3, to pick up their first road win of the season on Tuesday. UCSB falls to 5-7 in spring dual match season.

SMU outlasted the Gauchos in doubles play, dropping No. 1 doubles before winning at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots to clinch the point. Tiffany Hollebeck and Anzhelika Shapovalova defeated UCSB's Amit Lev Ari and Stephanie Yamada first, followed by a 7-5 win from Nicole Petchey and Ana Perez-Lopez over Amanda Atanasson and Lise Sentenac.

Heading into singles play with a 1-0 lead, the Mustangs didn't let up. Liza Buss picked up her first win of the spring with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Atanasson. Karina Traxler followed with a 7-6, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles.

UCSB earned a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles, but Monarrez Yesaki countered with her fifth victory (6-3, 3-6, 6-3) to clinch the match for the Mustangs.

The dual match played on, allowed the Guachos to earn two points at the No. 1 and No. 6 slots.

The Mustangs continue their road trip with a match at Loyola Marymount (4-2) tomorrow at 1 p.m. PT/2 p.m. CT.
