DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women's tennis team fell to Iowa, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon at the SMU Tennis Complex.

Ana Perez-Lopez and Sarai Monarrez Yesaki were met with a quick 6-0 loss at No. 2 doubles to Elise Van Huevelen and Montana Crawford, but the Mustangs continued to battle. The duo of Tiffany Hollebeck and Anzhelika Shapovalova kept fighting, but ultimately fell to Anastasia Reimchen and Danielle Bauers, 6-4, to seal the doubles point for Iowa. Liza Buss and Karina Traxler led 5-4 when their No. 1 doubles match was suspended.

Iowa added a quick second point when Liza Buss was retired in the first set at the No. 1 singles position (1-4). SMU earned its first point of the match behind Ana Perez-Lopez's dominant 6-0, 6-1 victory over Danielle Bauers.

The teams continued to trade points as Iowa notched a 6-2, 6-1 win over Sarai Monarrez Yesaki on court three. Karina Traxler earned SMU's second point with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Montana Crawford at the No. 5 spot, but the Hawkeyes countered with the match-clinching point on court four. Nicole Petchey fell to Anastasia Reimchen, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 to give Iowa the match.

Anzhelika Shapovalova played on to a 7-5, 6-4 loss to Zoe Douglas on court two.

The Mustangs return to the court next weekend to face conference-rival UCF on Friday, Feb. 9, at 5 p.m.
