Box Score DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women's tennis team fell to UCF, 6-1, Friday at the SMU Tennis Complex. SMU falls to 7-4 all-time against the American Athletic Conference rival.
SMU earned a victory at No. 2 doubles when
Anzhelika Shapovalova and
Tiffany Hollebeck defeated Monica Matias and Natalia Serrano, 6-4, but the Mustangs couldn't hold off the Knights. UCF took a 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles and a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles to clinch the point.
SMU tried to counter in singles, but was met with losses on five courts. UCF's Rebeka Stolmar defeated
Nicole Petchey (6-3, 6-4), while Hollebeck fell to Silvia Bordes (6-3, 6-2).
Sarai Monarrez Yesaki dropped straight sets at the No. 1 singles slot, falling 7-5, 6-0 to Ksenia Kuznetsova. Shapovalova battled Maria Martinez, but ultimately lost 6-3, 6-4.
The teams played on to earn SMU a point on court five.
Ana Perez-Lopez defeated Serrano, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Karina Traxler also fought a to third set against Matias, but fell 6-2, 2-6, 4-6 to close out the match.
SMU returns to the court Monday with a doubleheader at home against Collin County Community College (2 p.m.) and Northwestern State (5:30 p.m.).
