SMU Falls To No. 31 Kansas State

Box Score DALLAS (SMU) – SMU Women's Tennis suffered a 5-2 loss at the hands of No. 31 Kansas State (9-2) on Friday at the SMU Tennis Complex. SMU falls to 6-7 overall, 0-3 in conference matches.

Karina Traxler and Sarai Monarrez Yesaki began the match with a win at No. 1 doubles, but the Mustangs took losses on courts two and three to surrender the doubles point to the Wildcats.

In singles play, SMU was defeated in straight sets at No. 4 and No. 5 before Tiffany Hollebeck broke the slide with a win at No. 6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. Hollebeck improves to 3-2 in dual match season.

Traxler won her first set against KSU's Carolina Costamagna, 6-4, before dropping the second set, 6-0. She dropped the final set, 6-3, to clinch the match for the Wildcats.

As matches played on, Anzhelika Shapovalova fell at No. 1, 7-5, 0-6, 6-2, just her third loss at the top position. Liza Buss picked up her second singles victory on court two, a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 defeat of KSU's Maria Linares.

The Mustangs return to the court on Sunday, March 11, for a noon match against Georgia State. The two teams last met in January's Metroplex Mania tournament, when the Mustangs went undefeated against the Panthers in singles and doubles play.
