DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women's swimming and diving team returns to action in 2019 with three events during the first weekend of competition. Swimmers host Loyola University New Orleans at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium Friday at 2 p.m., before traveling to face No. 8 Texas A&M Saturday at 1 p.m. Divers head east to compete in the Georgia Diving Invite Friday through Sunday.
The Mustangs are 3-1 in dual action this season and are coming off a win at the Elite Pro-Am in December. At the mid-season Hawkeye Invite, SMU placed fourth of 12 teams. Three Mustangs hold NCAA B qualifying standards, including
Andrea Podmanikova (100 breast, 200 breast, 200 IM),
Erin Trahan (100 fly, 200 fly) and
Olivia Grossklaus (200 fly).
Texas A&M is ranked No. 8 in the latest edition of the CSCAA TYR Top 25 Poll after climbing from No. 11. The Aggies have wins over then-No. 17 Ohio State, Alabama, Rice and TCU, their lone loss came at the hands of then-No. 1 Texas in Austin.
In the most recent match-up, then-No. 1 Texas A&M defeated SMU in Dallas on Jan. 9, 2018.
The Wolfpack ranks No. 8 in the NAIA Women's Swim and Dive Coaches' Top 10 Poll and is 2-5 this season. Loyola is a member of the NAIA's Mid-South Conference.
Mustang divers will join 11 institutions at the Georgia Diving Invite Friday through Sunday at the Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens. SMU will compete against host Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, LSU, Arkansas, South Carolina, Auburn, Missouri, Virginia, NC State and Iowa State.
Action beings with 3 meter on Friday at 10 a.m. CT and continues with 1 meter at the same time Saturday. Platform competition is slated for 9 a.m. CT Sunday.
