NEW HAVEN, Conn. (SMU) – Wide receiver
James Proche was named the Walter Camp National Player of the Week after helping lead the Mustangs to a 43-37 overtime win over Tulsa on Saturday.
Proche registered 11 catches for 153 yards and two touchdowns, including the game winner in the third overtime. It was the 11th-career 100-yard game for Proche, and second this season, and sixth-career game with 10 or more receptions, also second this season. Proche now has five consecutive games with a touchdown pass, which ties for third at SMU.
The senior is second on SMU's all-time career receiving touchdown list with 31 and third with 3,253 career-receiving yards. His 235 receptions tie him for third.
The Mustangs trailed 30-9 in the contest, before coming back to win and improve to 6-0 for the first time since the 1982 season. Following the win, the Mustangs improved to No. 21 in the AP Poll and are ranked No. 22 in the Coaches Poll. SMU enters its bye week and will host Temple at Ford Stadium on Oct. 19.
