Mustangs Lead Nation With 21 Graduates On Roster

IRVING, Texas (NFF/SMU) – The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame today released a list of 1,439 student-athletes who have already earned undergraduate degrees and will be playing football this fall while pursuing secondary diplomas, and the Mustangs lead the nation with 21 graduates on the roster.

The SMU squad features a total of 11 student-athletes who have received undergraduate degrees on the Hilltop and 10 who are graduate transfers.

SMU graduates include Chris Biggurs, Rodney Clemons, Xavier Jones, Tyeson Neals, James Proche, Kevin Robledo, Delontae Scott, Richard Moore, Pono Davis, Kevin Johnson and Merek Pierce, while Zach Abercrumbia, Shane Buechele, Charlie Flores, Luke Hogan, Tommy McIntyre, Patrick Nelson, Michael Poujol, CJ Sanders, Brandon Stephens and Richard McBryde joined the Mustangs as grad transfers.

Equaling SMU's total was Kansas State.

The NFF also recognizes members of the Hampshire Honor Society each year, a list that featured a record-high four Mustangs last season. SMU is one of only 29 institutions to be recognized all 13 seasons.

Garrett Stotts was also one of eight collegiate student-athletes to be named a 2019 NFF Gridiron Club of Dallas Scholar-Athlete. Additionally, he was a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, which the NFF annually recognizes as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation.

In all, 34 Mustangs earned All-American Athletic Conference academic honors following the 2018 season.
