DALLAS (SMU) - Lisa Seifert earned her 400th win as head coach of the SMU volleyball program when the Mustangs defeated Oral Roberts Thursday. She is just the third SMU head coach to amass 400 wins on the Hilltop, following long-time women's basketball head coach Rhonda Rompola and men's tennis head coach Carl Neufeld, both of whom have since retired.
Seifert, who started the program in 1995 and directed the Mustangs through their first season in 1996, is the only head coach in program history, coaching in her 24th season. Through the years, her players have earned 11 All-America awards, 17 AVCA All-Region accolades and 53 all-conference honorees across three different conferences.
She was selected her peers with Conference Coach of the Year honors twice, and was named AVCA Region Coach of the Year in 2015. In the past 10 seasons, Seifert's team have won 204 matches, including the program's first NCAA Tournament victory with a 3-0 win against Texas A&M. The decade includes six 20-win seasons, including a program-record 27 wins in 2015.
Under her guidance, the Mustangs have advanced to the postseason three times since 2015, winning two conference championships. In the classroom, her student-athletes have earned 80 Academic All-Conference awards, and Avery Acker was named Academic All-American of the Year in 2015. The Mustangs have earned the AVCA Team Academic Award in seven of the last eight seasons.
SMU is 3-1 this season, and its next match is Saturday against Incarnate Word in Arlington at 4 p.m.
