Mustangs Announce 2020 Football Schedule

Feb 17

DALLAS (SMU) – The American Athletic Conference has released the 2020 SMU Football schedule, a slate that includes homes games against AAC Champion Memphis, AAC East Division Champion Cincinnati and in-state rivals Houston and TCU.

The Mustangs previously announced the non-conference slate, which includes home games against Stephen F. Austin (Sept. 12) and the Battle for the Iron Skillet against TCU (Sept. 26). The season opener will be played at Texas State on Sept. 5 and SMU travels to North Texas on Sept. 19.

The conference slate is home-heavy in October, beginning with Thursday night football on Oct. 1, as the Mustangs host Memphis in Ford Stadium. SMU also welcomes Cincinnati (Oct. 24) and Navy (Oct. 31) to the Hilltop during the month, while only traveling to Tulane on Oct. 17.

November also begins with another Thursday night contest for the Mustangs, as the first of back-to-back road games takes SMU to Philadelphia to tackle Temple on Nov. 5. The Mustangs are at Tulsa on Nov. 14 before facing Houston at home on Nov. 21 and finishing the regular season at East Carolina on Nov. 28.

SMU is coming off an historic season that saw the Mustangs go 10-3, winning the most games since 1984 and earning their highest national ranking since 1985. Nine Mustangs earned all-conference honors last season, including returning Maxwell and Davey O'Brien Award Semifinalist Shane Buechele.

Kickoff times and more TV information will be announced at a later date.

Each team will play four home and four road contests each season.

In 2021, UCF, USF, Tulane and Tulsa will visit Ford Stadium, while road games include return trips to Cincinnati, Houston, Memphis and Navy. ECU and Temple are not scheduled.
