PROVIDENCE, R.I. – SMU's
Mac Meissner was named American Athletic Conference Men's Golfer of the Week, the league announced Wednesday. This is the second straight tournament that an SMU golfer has earned weekly recognition from the AAC, and the third time Meissner has been honored by the league.
Meissner finished tied for fourth at the Southern Highlands Collegiate, one of the strongest events on the college golf calendar. Meissner shot under par each day, the only golfer in the 84-player field to do so, at the par 72 / 7,374 Southern Highlands Golf Club, posting a 6-under 210 with rounds of 70-69-71.
Meissner co-led the team with 11 birdies, and played the four par-5s at the course co-designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and Robert Trent Jones Sr. at 5-under. He helped SMU tie for eighth in a 15-team field that featured seven of the nation's top-10 teams, and he bested 29 of Division I's top-100 golfers in the event.
Meissner is one of four SMU golfers that have earned weekly or monthly recognition from the league, along with Bryson DeChambeau (2014) and current teammates
Noah Goodwin (2019) and
Ollie Osborne (Feb. 20). Meissner previously earned AAC Golfer of the Month in October 2018 and AAC Golfer of the Week on February 27, 2019.
The No. 9 Mustangs return to action March 20-22 at the Linger Longer Invitational in Greensboro, Georgia.
