Mustangs Fall To Tulsa On Friday Night

DALLAS, Texas (SMU) – SMU fell to Tulsa in three sets (27-25, 25-19, 25-20) in American Athletic Conference competition on Friday evening. The Mustangs notched eight more kills and six more digs than their opponent, but committed 22 errors in the match. The match consisted of 29 tie scores and 12 lead changes. Hannah Jacobs led the Mustangs with 12 kills, while Rachel Woulfe added 10 more. Bria' Merchant held tough digging up 24 balls on 32 opportunities.

Jadyn Bauss and Woulfe combined for 10 kills in an opening set where neither team gathered a larger lead than three. Tied at 18, SMU went up by two points after a kill from Jacobs and an attack error by the Golden Hurricane. Tulsa came back to tie up the set, as both teams went back-and-forth down the stretch. A bad set by SMU plus a kill by Bailey Rowe pushed Tulsa to the set victory.

Tulsa went up 15-11 in the second. The Golden Hurricane never let this lead slip away and found a 2-0 match lead. The third set was no different than the opening frame. After a 10-10 tie, Tulsa held onto the lead the rest of the way. SMU kept chipping away, but never could put together a large enough scoring run to even up the set.

Kayley Cassaday paced the Golden Hurricane with 12 kills, while three Tulsa players hit double-digits in digs. Marta Pecalli led the trio with 17. Tulsa also gathered 18 block assists to go along with three service aces.
