DALLAS (SMU) – The Mustangs lost 4-1 to LSU on Sunday at the SMU Tennis Complex. Sophomore
Hadley Doyle highlighted the SMU effort with a ranked win over No. 83 Safia Carrington.
The unbeaten Tigers won the doubles point after wins on lines one and two.
Jackie Nylander and
Chandler Carter lost to the nation's 14
th-ranked doubles pairing while
Claudia Bartolome and
Nicole Petchey lost 6-3 on court two.
Winslow Huth and
Hadley Doyle were up 5-4 at the time of doubles clinch.
Doyle's first ranked win as a Mustang came with a dominant performance on line two. Doyle jumped up early with a 6-2 first set before closing out her team-high sixth singles win with a 6-3 third set. The win evened the score at 1-1.
LSU made it 3-1 shortly after with wins on court six against
Kiana Graham (6-1, 6-4) and on court three against
Chandler Carter (6-3, 6-4).
Down to their final point, the Mustangs fought themselves back into a competitive match. Nylander, Bartolome and Petchey all dropped sets one, but each rebounded with a second-set victory.
Facing No. 41 Taylor Bridges on the top line, Nylander would drop set three, 6-0 clinching the match the Tigers. At the time of clinch, Bartolome was on serve with her court four opponent while Petchey trailed 2-0 on line five.
The Mustangs return to the court on Saturday for a neutral site match with No. 24 Arizona State in Lubbock.
