Volleyball Drops Five-Set Match vs. Texas Tech on Saturday

DALLAS – SMU fell to Texas Tech in five sets (25-21, 23-25, 21-25, 25-17, 15-11) on Saturday. Jadyn Bauss completed her 11th double-double this season after gathering 19 kills and 12 digs today. Alex Glover notched a career-best two aces. Makayla Miller matched her career-best with two kills on the day at the defensive specialist position. Hannah Jacobs and Rachel Woulfe followed behind Bauss with 18 and 17 kills, respectively. Bria' Merchant led the Mustangs with 20 digs, while Lily Heim dished out 54 assists.

Texas Tech (9-13, 5-11 BIG 12) took the first set, but SMU rallied back to take the next two sets in the match to find a 2-1 advantage. The Mustangs (8-6, 4-4- AAC) used a .500 hitting percentage and eight kills from Bauss to hold off the Red Raiders in the second set.

The third set saw seven ties and two lead changes. TTU took a 7-3 lead early, but SMU did not let down. The Mustangs eventually tied the match up at 14 and took a two-point advantage after an ace by Lily Heim. SMU held off the Red Raiders attack to take the set by two points.

Texas Tech gained the momentum at the right time and had a solid outing from Samantha Sanders, who combined for 10 kills in the final two sets. TTU hit .345 and 350 in sets four and five, respectively.

SENIOR DAY RECOGNITION
Meryn Kennedy was honored following Saturday's match. Meryn led the team in blocks each of her first three full seasons, ranking in the top 10 of the American Athletic Conference each year. She is now 9th on the SMU career blocks list. The 2020-21 team captain is a multi-year member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Executive Board, and now serves as the Vice President for External Affairs and liaison to the Diversity and Inclusion Council. She completed her bachelor's degree in May 2020 with a Double Major in Fashion Media and Advertising specializing in Strategic Brand Management. She will receive her Masters in Advertising this May.

UP NEXT

SMU will travel to Memphis to conclude the regular season. The Mustangs will face the Tigers on Friday, March 26 at 5 p.m. and then rematch Memphis on Saturday, March 27 at 12:30 p.m. Both matches will be broadcast on ESPN+.
