ARLINGTON, Texas (SMU) – SMU women's tennis finished off the season sweep of UTA with a 4-0 road victory over the Mavericks on Tuesday afternoon at the UTA Tennis Courts.

"We talked about improving on our last match with UTA and we certainly did that," said head coach Jeff Nevolo. "(Katherine) Jakeway came in and did a great job at 6 singles.  She hasn't played a ton of matches this year and I was impressed with her approach today.  This was a great win.  UTA competes so well and they are having a great season.  It's awesome for us to come out of here with a convincing win before we head to Florida for two big conference matches."

The road rematch saw the Mustangs face a UTA team with a perfect 10-0 record on its home courts this season. The Mustangs started the match by pulling out a 2-1 doubles victory. Nicole Petchey and Winslow Huth breezed through their victory on court three, 6-0, handing the Mavs line three pairing their first loss of the season. UTA won 6-1 on court two setting up the decisive court one. Jackie Nylander and Hadley Doyle avoided a tiebreaker with a break at 6-5 to win the match and put the Mustangs in front.

In singles, the Mustangs showed up strong on lines five and six with quick straight set wins. Katherine Jakeway dropped just three games in a 6-1, 6-2 victory on six. Petchey won on court five, also by a 6-1, 6-2 score to improve to 11-3 on the season.

Doyle clinched the match with her team high 14th win of the season by a score of 6-4, 6-2. The victory was Doyle's ninth straight win.

At the time of clinch, Nylander was within one game of a victory on line while Bartolome and Huth trailed by a set on courts four and three respectively.

The win gave the Mustangs 10 victories in their last 11 matches and their first road win of the season. The Mavs move to 11-2 on the season with both losses coming at the hands of the Mustangs.

Next up, the Mustangs face a challenging road swing down to Florida. They play at South Florida on Friday followed by a Sunday match with No. 17 UCF. SMU returns to Texas on April 2 for a showdown with No. 41 TCU in Fort Worth.
