RESULTS

AUSTIN, Texas (SMU) - SMU Track & Field opened the 2021 Outdoor Season on Saturday, posting six program top-10 marks and recording eight personal bests.

In their first outdoor event since June of 2019, the Mustangs made the trip to Austin for the University of Texas' one-day Longhorn Invitational at the Myers Track Stadium.

Freshman Funminiyi Olajide continued where she left off during the indoor season with another notable performance in the long jump. In her first jump, Olajide recorded the second-best long jump in program history with a 6.14m distance. Olajide would improve on that twice, jumping for 6.23m and eventually 6.30m. Olajide finished in second and first among the collegiate competitors. The freshman trails only LaVada Hill (2003 – 6.42m) for the top spot in SMU history. Fellow freshman Raelyn Roberson recorded a top-10 SMU mark of her own with a 5.80m top jump, good for eighth at SMU. Roberson finished the meet in sixth place.

On the track, the SMU 4x100 team won the meet with a time of 46.62. The team of Roberson, Chelsea Francis, Jada Laye and Jordanae Scott posted the sixth-ranked time from an SMU team.

Scott placed in second in the 100m thanks to an SMU-program top-10 time of 11.88. Olajide nearly cracked the top-10 record book with her time 12.03, just 0.01 away from No. 10. Olivia Mars shaved nearly a half second off her personal record with a time of 12.71.

Ashton Woods posted another program top-10 in the 200m. With a time of 24.44, Woods placed in fifth in the race. Laye clocked a 24.64 for an eighth-place finish and Annette Bolomboy finished in 10th with a time of 25.01. Sharone' Johnson and Mars came in with times of 26.28 and 26.91 respectively.  In the 400m, freshman Jasmine Jolly ran a 1:02.09 and Brooke Shepherd posted a 1:03.07.

In the throwing events, Olivia Dobson finished in third with a 42.10m mark in the javelin. Bethan Burley came in eighth with a 34.06m throw and Olivia Witt threw for a distance of 31.49m. Dobson made the finals of the shot put as well, throwing 12.48m to finish in ninth. Witt set a personal record with her 10.51m shot put heave.

Cassie Ackemann was the lone Mustang competitor in the high jump. The senior cleared 1.66m to finish in a tie for third.

The night portion of the event featured the distance races beginning with the 800m. Sophomore transfer Madison Savoy clocked a 2:15.50, good for a fourth-place finish while freshman Mackenzie Montandon came in 11th (2:33.74).

In the 1500m, Leoni Mierswa placed in 10th with her time of 4:42.19. In the 5000m, Maddie Hulcy improved by over 10 seconds with her time of 18:06.57, good for third place. Lior Kremer finished in 18:20.30 and in fourth place while Mia Olsen recorded a time of 18:53.87, for fifth place.
