Olajide Wins Bronze In Long Jump During AAC Day Two

TAMPA, Fla. (SMU) - Funminiyi Olajide won bronze in the long jump to highlight day two for SMU track & field at the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships.
 
Olajide placed third in her first AAC meet with a performance of 6.25m on her third of six jumps. The freshman earned All-Conference status and six points towards the Mustangs team total.
 
Senior Atipa Mabonga qualified for the finals as well with a best jump of 5.88m, improving her career best and SMU career top-10 distance. The New Zealand native finished in ninth among the 30-athlete field. Mabonga will return to the pit on Sunday for the triple jump.
 
Also in the long jump, freshman Raelyn Roberson jumped a distance of 5.86m, missing a spot in the finals by just 0.01 meters. Olivia Witt finished up her busy day with a 5.33m, 26th-place finish in the individual long jump.
 
Olivia Dobson finished in fourth in the Heptathlon after another day of impressive performances. Dobson maintained her fourth-place spot after Saturday's first event with a 5.44m in the long jump. She jumped into third thanks to her top Javelin throw of 39.16m, second best in the field. The England native narrowly missed a spot on the medal stand after her 2:30.19 time in the 800m. She finished just one point behind Rojo of Wichita State. Her final score of 5144 ranks sixth best in SMU history.
 
Olivia Witt finished in 11th with 4667 points in the Heptathlon. Witt started the day with a 5.30m in the long jump and a 27.93m in the javelin. Witt capped the two-day event with a personal best showing of 2:27.85 in the 800m.
 
Jernaya Sharp qualified for Sunday's final in the 100m hurdles with her time of 13.41. The senior finished in fifth coming within 0.11 of the SMU record.
 
Chika Iwuamadi punched her ticket to the 400m final after a 53.32 performance in the prelims. Iwuamadi won her heat by nearly two seconds and finished second overall. Whitney Williams clocked a 56.32 to finish in 22nd and Annette Bolomboy ran a 57.77 to place in 27th.
 
Chelsea Francis advanced to the finals of the 100m behind a season's best time of 11.47. She finished second in her heat and sixth overall. The 11.47 time moves Francis into a qualifying position for the NCAA West Regional.  Jordanae Scott missed the finals after an 11.83 followed closely by Raelyn Roberson's 11.86. Olivia Mars recorded a personal best with a time of 12.65.
 
 
Leoni Mierswa recorded a personal best in the 800m. The first-year Mustang missed the final by three spots after finishing in 2:12.79. Mierswa was 0.40 from entering the SMU top-10 record book. Also, in the 800m, Madison Savoy crossed the line in 2:29.25.
 
The final day of the AAC Outdoor Championships begins Sunday at 1:30.  62% of the total points at the meet are up for grabs on the last day starting with the triple jump and concluding with the 4x400 Relay at 6:45 p.m. CT.
