IRVING, Texas (The American/SMU) - The American Athletic Conference announced its 18-game schedule format for the 2021-22 men's basketball season today. SMU will play eight conference opponents twice: Cincinnati, Houston, Memphis, Temple, Tulane, Tulsa, USF and Wichita State. The Mustangs have one matchup with two league foes, hosting UCF at Moody Coliseum, and visiting East Carolina.
The American Men's Basketball Championship is March 10-13 (Thursday-Sunday) at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth.
In non-conference play, the Mustangs have already announced the Jacksonville Classic with bracket play set for Nov. 21-22. The Mustangs face Missouri (Nov. 21) and then will face Florida State or LMU on Nov. 22. SMU also hosts Sam Houston on Nov. 24.
The Mustangs are entering the sixth season under Head CoachÂ
Tim Jankovich. Under Jankovich, the Mustangs are 101-55 with a 69-17 mark at Moody Coliseum. SMU is 30-17 the past two seasons with a 21-4 mark at home. The Mustangs earned an NIT bid this past season, finishing 11-6.
SMU returns unanimous All-American Athletic Conference honoree
Kendric Davis after he led the AAC in scoring (19.0) and assists (7.6, 4
th NCAA). He was the only player in the nation to lead his league in both. He additionally led the AAC and was 10
th nationally with a 3.2 assist-to-turnover ratio. The Mustangs also return starters
Emmanuel Bandoumel (10.2 points, 24
th AAC; 36.4% 3s, 14
th AAC) and
Isiah Jasey (1.0 blocks, 6
th AAC) as well as reserves

Zach Nutall from Sam Houston (Southland Conference Player of the Year),
Marcus Weathers from Duquesne (2-time All-Atlantic 10),
Michael Weathers from Texas Southern (SWAC Newcomer of the Year),
Tristan Clark from Baylor (2019-20 Karl Malone Watch List) and
Franklin Agunanne from Loyola Chicago. Newcomers also include
Zhuric Phelps (2021 Texas Mr. Basketball),
Jalen Smith (3-star),
Stefan Todorovic (Nike Hoop Summit, Serbia U19 Team) and
Tyler Lundblade (McDonald's All-American nominee).
