ABOUT SMU
•     The Mustangs have played just three matches since the 2019 season, with a win against Northwestern State to start the 2021 campaign.
•    SMU split a pair of conference matches in the Spring of 2021, its only two matches of the season.
•    Courtney Sebazco leads the team with two goals, the first she has scored since her freshman season in 2018.
•    Sebazco was named to the American Athletic Weekly Honor Roll after her season-opening performance.
•    Samantha Estrada started the season off with a clean sheet, needing to make just one save against Northwestern State.
•    Chris Petrucelli is in his 10th season at SMU. 
•    The Mustangs are receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll.

LAST TIME OUT
•     The Mustangs defeated Northwestern State, 2-0.
• Courtney Sebazco scored both goals, her first since her freshman season in 2018 (6). 
•     Samantha Estrada made one save on three total shots for the clean sheet.

AT HOUSTON BAPTIST
•     SMU was scheduled to start the season Aug. 19 at Houston Baptist, but the match was canceled due to poor field conditions in Houston. 

UP NEXT
•     SMU's next match is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 5, at Denver at 3 p.m. CT. 
•    This will be the first contest between the two programs.

SCOUTING BAYLOR
•    Baylor enters the contest with a 1-2 record, despite outscoring opponents 5-3, with goals from five different players. The Bears have put 26 shots on goal, compared to just 16 by their opponents.
•    The Bears started the season on the road, losing 1-0 at Minnesota. Four of the five goals came in a shutout win at North Dakota State. 
•    In its first home match, Baylor was beaten 2-1 by Nebraska.

SERIES HISTORY
•     SMU is 9-4-0 all-time against Baylor, including a 3-1-0 record  in Waco. 
•     Baylor won each of the last three matches in the series, snapping a streak of six straight wins by the Mustangs. 
•    Baylor won, 4-1, on Sept. 17, 2017, in the last meeting. The previous match was played on Sept. 1, 2013.

2021 AAC ALL-PRESEASON TEAM
Wayny Balata was named to the American Athletic Conference Preseason All-Conference Team.
The junior midfielder has three career goals, scoring two in 18 games as a freshman and one in two games last season. The Montreal native also tallied two assists during her only full campaign on the Hilltop.

COACHING CORNER
•    Chris Petrucelli is in his 10th season as head coach at SMU and his 32nd season overall. 
•    Petrucelli is one of eight active coaches to win a national championship (Notre Dame, 1995).
•    Petrucelli started the season ranked seventh among active head coaches with 416 career wins.

RETURNING MUSTANGS
•     The Mustangs return 18 players from the Coronavirus moved and shortened spring 2021 season, which featured just two matches played.
•    Of the 18 returners, 13 saw game action. Jewel Boland scored three goals with an assists, Wayny Balata scored, and Alina Khan recorded an assist.
•    SMU returns both of its goalkeepers Samantha Estrada and Tatum Sutherland.

NEW MUSTANGS
•     SMU added nine freshman and three transfers to the roster this season. 
•     Canadians Jasmine Vilgrain and Elisabeth Tse join Wayny Balata and Brigitta Pulins as Mustangs from north of the border.
•     Freshman Angie Diep is the lone newcomer from the Lone Star State, coming to the Hilltop from Spring, Texas.
•    SMU added pairs of freshmen from California, Ceanna Doria and Abby Hampton, Oregon, Mia Gish and Ellie Ruhoff, and Nevada, Sammy Nieves and Simone Hottentot. Sienna Gonzales joins the Mustangs from Arizona.
