2021-22 Men's Basketball Schedule Announced

Sep 30

IRVING, Texas (The American/SMU) – SMU's 2021-22 men's basketball slate was finalized on Thursday when the American Athletic Conference announced its schedule. SMU will play eight conference opponents twice: Cincinnati, Houston, Memphis, Temple, Tulane, Tulsa, USF and Wichita State. The Mustangs have one matchup with two league foes, hosting UCF at Moody Coliseum, and visiting East Carolina.

The conference slate opens at Tulsa on Dec. 29 with the first home game against UCF on Jan. 2. The Mustangs play four of the final five league games at Moody Coliseum, hosting Memphis (Feb. 20), Tulsa (Feb. 23), Cincinnati (March 3) and Tulane (March 6) around a trip to Houston (Feb. 27).

Nine of SMU's final 13 league games will be featured on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU. The American Men's Basketball Championship is March 10-13 (Thursday-Sunday) at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth.

The non-conference schedule is highlighted by home games against UNLV (Dec. 1), Vanderbilt (Dec. 4) and Dayton (Dec. 8), road games at Oregon (Nov. 12) and New Mexico (Dec. 19) plus the Jacksonville Classic (Nov. 21-22) with Florida State, Missouri and LMU. The season opens at Moody Coliseum versus McNeese on Tuesday, Nov. 9.

The Mustangs are entering the sixth season under Head Coach Tim Jankovich. Under Jankovich, the Mustangs are 101-55 with a 69-17 mark at Moody Coliseum. SMU is 30-17 the past two seasons with a 21-4 mark at home. The Mustangs earned an NIT bid this past season, finishing 11-6.

He was the only player in the nation to lead his league in both. He additionally led the AAC and was 10th nationally with a 3.2 assist-to-turnover ratio.
