The SMU women's swimming and diving team is back in action this weekend with dual meets against North Texas and Tulane. The Mustangs also welcome Arkansas to the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center for diving action in both meets.

Last Time Out
The Mustangs split a double dual in Houston, defeating Rice, 164-98, and falling to Houston, 167-118. SMU picked up seven event wins from five different Mustangs, including Ilektra Lebl, Gabi Grobler and Jenna Watson who each had a pair.

Dualing It Out
The Mustangs are now 3-1 in dual action this season with wins over TCU, New Mexico State and Rice. The win total matches SMU's three from the 2019-20 season, and wins this weekend would give the Mustangs their most dual wins since going 5-2 in 2011-12.

Conference Favorites
The Mustangs have twice swept AAC weekly awards so far in 2021-22 and have picked up five of six possible honors this season.

Nov. 23
Ilektra Lebl
Lebl picked up a pair of individual wins and a relay victory at the SMU Invite. Lebl swam the fastest 500 freestyle time in the conference this season with an NCAA B-cut showing of 4:45.10 and added the second-fastest 400 IM effort of the year in 4:16.13. Lebl also led off the 800 free relay for the Mustangs that took first place with a meet record time of 7:20.72.

Nicole Stambo
Stambo turned in a career performance at the Invite. Stambo scored 285.75 points to win 1 meter, with a career-best 309.55 in prelims. Stambo added another NCAA Zone score of 264.30 to win platform.

Nov. 2
Gabi Grobler
Grobler was a double event winner in the dual victory at TCU. Grobler swam the third-fastest 200 backstroke time of the season in the conference, clocking in at 2:01.65 to take the win for SMU. Grobler also led the charge of three Mustangs on the podium in the 200 IM with a time of 2:05.10.

Johanna Holloway
Holloway found the podium twice at TCU, winning 3 meter and finishing second on 1 meter. Both performances met the NCAA Zone threshold.

Oct. 12
Gabi Grobler
Grobler turned in a strong performance for SMU in the season-opening SMU Classic, which featured four top-25 programs in the field. Grobler was the runner-up in the 200 IM with a time of 1:59.12, not only a PR in the event but also an NCAA B cut, and also posted the top conference times of the season in the 100 back (:54.13), 200 back (1:58.67) and 100 breast (1:04.10).

Making The Cut
Gabi Grobler (200 IM, 400 IM) and Ilektra Lebl (500 free, 400 IM) lead Mustang swimmers with a pair of NCAA B cuts so far this season. Frederica Kizek (1,650 free) and Valentina Becerra (100 fly) each have one.
 
On the diving side, Jaclynn Fowler, Johanna Holloway and Nicole Stambo have all hit NCAA Zone qualifying marks on 1 and 3 meter, while Holloway and Stambo have qualified on platform.
 
League Leaders
The Mustangs lead The American in nine of 13 individual swimming events this season and three of five relays. They also have 17 top-three individual times. SMU relays hold three of the top spots with the additional two ranking second.

Vote Getters
The Mustangs opened the 2021-22 season listed among those receiving votes in the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Top 25 Division I Preseason Poll.

Collins Honored As CSCAA 100 Greatest Coaches
Head Coach Steve Collins was named to the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) list of 100 Greatest Swimming & Diving Coaches of the Past 100 Years. The list was released as part of the organization's Centennial Celebration. Just over 500 coaches were nominated. A blue ribbon committee of fifty eight voters selected from 263 finalists, each focusing on a particular sport (swimming or diving) and Division.

Collins is in his 36th season as head coach of the women's swimming and diving team. A two-time NCAA Coach of the Year and 11-time conference Coach of the Year, Collins has led the Mustangs to 17 conference championships and has made an appearance at the NCAA Championships on 34 occasions. During his tenure, SMU has 15 top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships, nine of those in the top five.

All-American Returners
Five members of the SMU women's swimming and diving program earned College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America honors for their work in the pool and in the classroom following the 2020-21 season.

To be selected as a member of the CSCAA Scholar All-America first team as an individual, swimmers and divers must have achieved a grade-point-average of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Honorable mention selections have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard or competed at their respective qualifying meets.

Three Mustang divers, who all competed at the NCAA Zone Diving Championships, picked up accolades, including Johanna Holloway, Taylor Ohlhauser and Nicole Stambo. On the swimming side, Olivia Grossklaus and Gabi Grobler were honored. The pair of captains combined for four total relay all-conference performances, while Grossklaus was the conference champion in the 200 fly.
 
Holt Hickman Outdoor Pool Is Coming To The Hilltop
With a $2.5M gift from the Hickman family, SMU will soon break ground for a new eight-lane, 50-meter by 25-yard outdoor pool, with 1- and 3-meter diving boards. The $11M project will also include a 20-foot by 40-foot instructional pool that will be used for lessons and rehab/therapy. The addition of the outdoor pool will complete the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center, making SMU the only University in the country with both indoor and outdoor Olympic pools in one facility, further cementing SMU's swimming and diving facility as one of the finest in college athletics.

American Championships Return to Dallas
For the second consecutive year, SMU will host the American Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships. The event is set to take place Feb. 16-19 at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium.
