Rawlins Named Assistant A.D.; Will Lead Unit
DALLAS (SMU) – After three years of positive outcomes with football student-athletes, SMU Athletics will expand its Life After Ball (LAB) Program to all sports, beginning in Fall 2022.
The vision of the LAB program is to equip each student-athlete with the skills and education to secure a job upon graduation, and to teach basic life skills that will assist them as they enter the real world and no longer have the support of their sport guiding them. Former athletes, SMU alumni, and all community members are invited to connect. SMU's goal is to continue to expand the network, and, as current athletes graduate, to keep those individuals connected to the program. SMU is always looking for more internship and job opportunities for student-athletes, as well as mentors and people with specific business expertise they may be willing to lend to the program. Fans can connect and follow along with the Life After Ball LinkedIn page here.
Leading these expanded efforts will be Lisa Rawlins, who has headed the program since 2020. Rawlins will be promoted to Assistant A.D. Student-Athlete Experience after serving the last year as Director of Player Development and Life After Ball.
Rawlins arrived on the Hilltop in the Fall of 2010 after stops at UCF and Oklahoma. She has had an extensive career at SMU, serving as both the Director for the Center for the Academic Development of Student-Athletes (ADSA) and Football Academic Advisor for a decade. During this time, Rawlins built the academic support unit for the sports of football and men's and women's basketball. In her time, all three sports hit GPA records numerous years in a row, while consistently increasing their GPAs over time.
Rawlins graduated from Fresno State with a B.A. in Psychology and earned her M.Ed. in Higher Education at the University of Oklahoma. Rawlins was a former basketball and equestrian collegiate athlete. She is married to Reggie Rawlins and is an avid runner and fitness enthusiast, having completed several marathons, including Boston.
Lisa can be reached at the LinkedIn page or at erawlins@smu.edu.
