Austin-Roark Equals School Record In Win Over Tulane

DALLAS (SMU) –
London Austin-Roark tied a school record for the most blocks in a three-set match, with 10 (1-0) helping SMU to a 3-0 triumph over Tulane at Moody Coliseum Sunday.
 
The Mustangs improved to 13-7, including 6-2 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Green Wave fell to 6-13, 1-7.
 
Rachel Woulfe and Marieke van der Mark paced SMU with nine kills each, with six other players notching at least one.
 
Trailing 5-3 in the opening set, the Mustangs rattled off 22 of the final 32 rallies and gaining a 1-0 advantage. Tatum Ticknor delivered her first on consecutive serves after a Natalie Perdue kill sparked a 9-0 run, pushing the home side ahead 12-5.
 
Tulane sputtered on offense, hitting .046 (26-21-109) in the match, with a high in game two. The Green Wave converted .062, converting eight of 32 attempts with six miscues.
 
Trailing 10-9 in the second set, van der Mark sparked a 10-3 rally and moving the Mustangs in front for good. They led wire-to-wire in the final stanza, closing out their sixth sweep of the season.

SMU improved to 13-7 overall, including 6-2 in The American, while Tulane dropped to 6-13, 1-7.
The Mustangs extended their winning streak to four against the Green Wave, which lead the all-time series 18-17.
        SMU holds a 10-9 mark in the series at home.    
The 13 wins is the most for the Mustangs  through the first 20 matches since 2019, when they started 14-6.

TEAM RECORDS
SMU totaled 12.0 blocks, the most in a three-set match and the second most this season.
The Mustangs improved to 10-1 after winning the first set and 9-0 when they take a 2-0 advantage.
        SMU hit .269 (39-10-108), improving to 8-2 when hitting over .250 and 8-1 when holding its opponents below .200.
Tulane hit .046 (26-21-109), the second lowest by a Mustang's opponent this season, while the 21 errors equals the most in a three-set match.    

INDIVIDUAL NOTES
Graduate transfer MB London Austin-Roark set a career-high with 10 blocks (1-9), adding six kills and an ace.
        Austin-Roark equaled the program record for blocks in a three-set match.
        This is the fifth time in school history, the first since Kendra Kahenek tallied 10 at Houston Oct. 9, 2009.
Senior OH Rachel Woulfe hit .643, nine kills and no errors on 14 attempts, with three digs and a block.
Graduate transfer OPP Marieke van der Mark added  tallied kills, four digs and a block.
        Sophomore OH Natalie Perdue accrued 10 digs, six kills and four blocks.
Sophomore MB Kaitlyn Knobbe made her third-straight start and notched four kills with two blocks.
Donning the libero jersey, graduate transfer Tatum Ticknor notched 14 digs, with five assists.
Freshman S Casey Batenhorst led the Mustangs with 16 assists, chipping in with three digs and a kill.
Junior S Celia Cullen handed out 12 assists, with seven digs.
Senior OH Jadyn Bauss dug nine attacks, blocked two more and delivered one kill.
Senior MB Alex Glover converted all three of her attacks.
Junior DS BreyAnn Sands accounted for one dig and one ace.
Sophomore OH Jamison Wheeler dropped in one ace from the service line.
Freshman OH Jentry Lamirand finished with a dig.
 
SMU embarks on a three-match road swing, beginning at Temple Friday.
