Divers Post NCAA Cuts As Mustangs Fall At No. 25 Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS (SMU) – The SMU women's swimming and diving team fell to the No. 25 team in the country, Minnesota, in a two-day dual that finished on Friday.

Both Mustangs competing on 1 meter came in above the NCAA Zone Qualifying Score. Jaclynn Fowler (270.68) was SMU's top finisher again at second, while Nicole Stambo (266.40) was fifth.

The Mustangs' 400 medley relay team of Jimena Leguizamon Leal, Maddy Lewis, Valentina Becerra and Indra Vandenbussche started the day off strong, taking the opening event in 3:47.10.

SMU's sprint freestylers took two of the top three spots in the 100, with Lucrezia Napoletano (51.52) and Vandenbussche (51.94) finishing two-three, respectively.

Leguizamon Leal continued to lead the squad in backstroke events, coming in third in the 200 distance at 2:04.90, and Maxine Parkinson closed out individual events with a runner-up finish in the 200 butterfly at 2:05.58.

The Mustangs finished the day with a second-place finish from Valentina Becerra, Johanna Gudmundsdottir, Napoletano and Vandenbussche in the 200 free relay (1:34.33).

SMU fell in the team total, 260-93.
