DALLAS (SMU) – SMU secured a straight-set victory over Cincinnati, 25-15, 25-17, 25-19, in American Athletic Conference action at Moody Coliseum Sunday.
 
Marieke van der Mark closed with a flurry, notching the Mustangs final seven points of set three.
 
Following a Jamison Wheeler kill that trimmed the deficit to 18-17, van der Mark delivered the first of three consecutive kills. She teamed up with Alex Glover for a block, before slamming home another winner and nudging the margin out to 22-18.
 
After a kill and service error by the Bearcats, van der Mark and Glover rejected another attack, setting up match point. van der Mark salted away the victory with another kill on the next rally.
 
SMU held the visitors to a -.051 hitting percentage (6-8-40) rode runs of 6-0 and 5-1 en route to the early advantage. Slow out the gate, Cincinnati found itself in an 8-2 hole after allowing six-straight points by the Mustangs. Leading 14-9, SMU extended its advantage to 19-10 with a 5-1 spurt. After a service error by the home team, Glover and van der Mark delivered the final two kills of game one.
 
The teams traded runs in the middle frame, with the Mustangs holding the early edge at 12-7. Unlike game one, Cincinnati responded and closed within a pair at 15-13. A kill from the right arm of London Austin-Roark and three by Wheeler sparked a 10-4 run to close out set, with Jadyn Bauss dropping in aces for the final two tallies.

  • SMU improved to 17-7 overall, including 10-2 in the AAC, while Cincinnati fell to 6-16, 4-8.

    • She recorded a double-double 11 times this season.
  • Sophomore OH Natalie Perdue recorded 10 kills, 11 digs, two blocks, two assists and an ace.
    • Perdue posted a double-double for the sixth time in her career – all as a Mustang.
  • Junior S Celia Cullen recorded her seventh double-double with 40 assists and 10 digs.
    • Cullen added one block, one ace and one kill.
  • Senior MB London Austin-Roark hit .556 (10-0-18), with four blocks and one service ace.
    • She tallied at least 10 kills for the 20th-time in her career, including twice this season.
  • Graduate transfer OPP Marieke van der Mark totaled 11 kills and three blocks.
    • She posted double-digits kills for the 12th time in 2022.
  • Donning the libero jersey, graduate transfer Tatum Ticknor netted nine digs and two assists.
  • Senior MB Alex Glover hit .429 (3-0-7), with four blocks.
  • Freshman OH Jentry Laminrand posted seven digs.
  • Senior OH Jadyn Bauss delivered a pair of aces from the service line.
