DALLAS (SMU) – SMU Volleyball Head Coach Sam Erger announced Hannah Whittingstall, a 6'2'' middle blocker from San Antonio, Texas to a National Letter of Intent Wednesday.

"Since the first time I watched Hannah play, I've been counting down the days until she can suit up as a Mustang," Erger said. "She is exceptionally skilled and extremely competitive."

Whittingstall ranked as high as 67^th on the Prep Volleyball top-150 list for the 2023 class and a member of the watch list. She earned All-District First Team Selection each season, a three-time Texas Sports Writers Association (TSWA) All-State Team, a three-time Texas Girls Coaches Association All-State honoree, an All-State First Team District 27-5A - Most Outstanding Hitter

The San Antonio Express News voted her to the Super Team each year including the Newcomer of the Year as a freshman. She was a National Freshman of the Year Finalist, a Frosh 59 and an All-American Honorable Mention from Preps Volleyball in 2019.

Academically, Whittingstall collected All-District Academic Team honors after her first three seasons.

"Her work ethic and character are what we want to be with in the gym every day and have on this team," Erger said. "She is a big-time recruit and I have no doubt will be a huge part of taking SMU volleyball to new heights."

Off the court, she held board positions with AH Mental Health Club, AH Body Positivity Club and a Superintendent with the Student Advisory Council 2021 and a member of the National Charity League Rose Chapter. She volunteers with many organizations, including SNIPSA, The Children's Bereavement Center, The San Antonio Food Bank, Morningside Ministries, Snack Pack for Kids, Fisher House, Family Service Association, Disaster Response during COVID.

Erger and her staff look to finish out the remaining signing class in the coming weeks and months.
