DALLAS (SMU) – SMU dropped a hard-found match against Wichita State (25-20, 24-26, 25-17, 20-25, 12 -15) in American Athletic Conference Action at Moody Coliseum Wednesday.

The Mustangs fell to 21-10 overall, including 14-5 in The American, while the Shockers improved to 17-12, 12-6.

Jadyn Bauss paced SMU with 18 kills, 15 digs, five service aces and three blocks. The five aces established a new career high and ranked fourth on the all-time list for a Mustang in all matches, while marking the third-highest total in a five-set contest.

London Austin-Roark finished with 12 kills, while
Jamison Wheeler and
Marieke van der Mark tallied 11 and 10, respectively.

After falling behind 6-1 in the fifth set, SMU stormed back and drew even at 12-all. Wichita State salted away the victory on a kill from Morgan Weber. Sophia Rohling and a Shockers block positioned the guest with a pair of match points, with Weber delivering on the first opportunity.

The Mustangs dropped in four aces in game one and hit .200, while holding Wichita State to .139 to grab the early advantage. Bauss led the way with seven successful swings.

Game two featured ebbs and flow by each team, including runs of three, four and seven by the Mustangs but Wichita State posted the final spurt, drawing even at one set each. Trailing 23-19, the Shockers rattled off seven of the next eight points.

SMU moved ahead 2-1, with a wire-to-wire victory in the third frame. The Mustangs tallied five points at the service line and the defense stymied Wichita State, allowing just six kills on 36 swings and forcing five errors.

The Shockers earned a six-point triumph in game four, forcing a decisive fifth set. Wichita State recorded its highest hitting percentage of the contest at .250 (12-3-36), while holding the Mustangs to .100 (14-10-40).
