DALLAS (SMU) - SMU held Arkansas-Pine Bluff without a field goal for 13 minutes and eight seconds en route to a 74-45 victory at Moody Coliseum Tuesday.
The Mustangs improved to 5-2, extending their winning streak to four, while the Lady Lions dropped to 1-5, falling in three straight.
SMU outscored Arkansas-Pine Bluff 34-9 during the stretch. Tia Morgan converted a layup with 3:59 remaining in the opening quarter, trimming the Mustangs margin to two at 12-10. Coriah Beck 's floater with 51 seconds remaining in the half snapped the 0 for 15 stretch in which the Mustangs' lead ballooned to 46-19.
As the seconds melted away in the third quarter and
Jasmine Smith needed two points to reach 1,000 in her career, the graduate student from Cypress, Texas, drove the lane. Despite drawing a foul with five seconds left in the period, her jumper from just inside the paint fell through the hoop and touching nothing but net. She converted at the charity stripe, pushing her team's cushion out to 27, at 58-31 with 10 minutes remaining. Smith led all scorers with 19 points.
Tamia Jones totaled 13 points, while
Savannah Wilkinson and
Jessica Peterson added 10 points each.
