SMU is the No. 2 seed in the Air Force Reserve American Athletic Conference Championship after finishing the regular season with a 22-7 overall record and a 13-4 mark in AAC games. The Mustangs will face No. 7 seed Wichita State or No. 10 seed Tulsa in the quarterfinal round on Friday at 6 p.m. at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth.
SMU is 22-7 overall and finished 13-4 in the American Athletic Conference after a 74-68 win over Tulane on Sunday. The Mustangs have won 19 of their last 23 outings.
SMU IN THE AAC CHAMPIONSHIP: The Mustangs are 8-4 in the American Athletic Conference Championship. SMU won the 2015 and 2017 tournaments to earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
KENDRIC DAVIS NAMED AAC PLAYER OF THE YEAR, MARCUS WEATHERS ALL-AAC SECOND TEAM:
Kendric Davis was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Year and
Marcus Weathers was selected All-AAC Second Team, the league announced on Wednesday. Davis was the only unanimous All-AAC First-Team honoree. Davis is averaging 19.5 points (1st AAC), 3.8 rebounds, 1.5 steals (15th AAC), 4.6 assists (3rd AAC) with a 1.7 assist/turnover ratio (9th AAC) and hitting 45.2% on FGs (3rd AAC), 85.9% on FTs (3rd AAC) and 37.3% 3FGs with 2.4 3FGs per game (7th AAC). Weathers has an AAC-best seven double-doubles this season. He is averaging 12.5 points (16th AAC), 7.5 rebounds (2nd AAC) and 0.7 blocks while hitting 51.2% from the field, 71.6% on free throws (13th AAC) and is 21-of-55 on threes (38.2%). He was named AAC Player of the Week twice this season. He is also all-conference for the third straight season after earning All-A-10 honors at Duquesne in 2019-20 and 2020-21. SMU has the most AAC Player of the Year awards (4) and All-AAC selections (19) in the league. Davis joins Nic Moore (2014-15, 2015-16) and Semi Ojeleye (2016-17) as Mustangs to win AAC Player of the Year. Weathers is the 13th Mustang to earn All-AAC honors. Davis' Player of the Year selection is the 13th in program history. He is also the 20th Mustang with multiple first-team all-conference honors.
KENDRIC DAVIS HONORS: In addition to AAC Player of the Year and unanimous All-AAC First Team,
Kendric Davis was selected to the Naismith Trophy Midseason Team (1 of 30). He was also selected unanimous preseason All-American Athletic Conference First Team, named to the Naismith Trophy Watch List, the Wooden Award Preseason 50 Watch List, the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Watch List and the Lute Olson Player of the Year Award Watch List. This season, he has been national player of the week (Jan. 3) and earned a total of nine AAC Weekly Honors (3x Player of the Week, 7x Weekly Honor Roll). Last season, he was unanimous All-AAC First Team as well as USBWA All-District and NABC All-District. Davis led the AAC in scoring (19.0) and assists (7.6, 4th NCAA) last season, and was the only player to lead his league in both.
AAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Michael Weathers was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week. He is the third Mustang to earn the honor this season, joining
Kendric Davis (three times) and
Marcus Weathers (twice). He averaged 17.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocked shot while shooting 10-of-19 from the field, 3-of-4 from three and 12-of-14 on free throws. In the 76-71 win over Cincinnati, he had 19 points and a career-high 11 rebounds as he recorded his first double-double of the season. He followed it with 16 points, six rebounds and four assists in the 74-68 victory against Tulane on senior day. He is the tenth Mustang to earn AAC Player of the Week.
UNDEFEATED AT HOME: SMU went 16-0 at home this season, and has won 18 straight at Moody Coliseum (T-5th NCAA active streaks). The Mustangs have wins in 37 of the last 41 games at Moody Coliseum.
SMU AMONG AAC LEADERS: SMU leads The American in threes made (8.8) and is second in the league for 3-point percentage (36.5%). Two Mustangs are averaging among the AAC leaders in threes per game with
Kendric Davis making 2.4 (7th AAC) and
Emmanuel Bandoumel at 2.2 (8th AAC). The Mustangs lead the AAC in defensive rebounds (28.4, 15th NCAA), rank third in scoring at 74.4 points, third in FG% (44.6%), fifth in FG% defense (39.9%, 27th NCAA) and fourth in FT% (74.4%).
Kendric Davis is leading the AAC in scoring (19.5, 29th NCAA). He is in the top five in the league in field-goal percentage (45.2%, 3rd AAC), free-throw percentage (85.9%, 3rd AAC, 52nd NCAA) and assists (4.6, 3rd AAC, 59th NCAA). Davis is also ranked in the league for assist-to-turnover ratio (1.7, 9th AAC), 3FGs made (2.4, 7th AAC) and steals (1.5, 15th AAC).
Marcus Weathers leads SMU in rebounding (7.4, 2nd AAC) and double-doubles (7, 1st AAC). Michael Weathers is ranked in the AAC in blocked shots (1.3, 6th AAC), steals (1.6, 11th AAC) and rebounds (5.7, 13th AAC).

Isiah Jasey started 15 of the first 16 games (missed game at Tulsa, and suffered a season-ending right Achilles injury vs USF 1/12). Kendric Davis scored 19 points as SMU extended its home win streak to 16 games, topping Tulane 74-68 on Sunday.
Emmanuel Bandoumel added 18 points for the Mustangs, while
Michael Weathers chipped in 16. Davis hit 4 of 6 3-pointers. Weathers also had six rebounds.
Marcus Weathers had 12 points and 13 rebounds for SMU (22-7, 13-4 American Athletic Conference). Jadan Coleman had 19 points for the Green Wave (13-14, 10-8). Jaylen Forbes added 16 points and seven rebounds. DeVon Baker had 11 points.
THE SERIES VS. WICHITA STATE (6-9): SMU has dropped the four contests over the past four seasons after splitting the 2017-18 season, the first season as conference foes. On Jan. 17, 2018, SMU downed then-No. 7/4 Wichita State, 83-78, in Kansas to end the Shockers' 27-game Koch Arena winning streak. WSU won the return game at Moody Coliseum 84-78 on Feb. 24, 2018. The first meeting dates back to Dec. 22, 1956, when SMU won 85-67 in Wichita, Kan. The then-No. 5 Mustangs won the following year in Dallas, 93-70. After eight years dormant, Wichita State bested SMU in the NCAA Midwest Regional, 86-81, on March 12, 1965, for its first win of the series. After a 1-1 split between 1970 and 1971, the two teams went 2-2 between 1993-1996 as the home team won each matchup.
LAST GAME (L, 72-57 at Wichita State on Feb. 5): WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Ricky Council IV and Tyson Etienne scored 20 points apiece as Wichita State rolled past SMU 72-57 on Saturday. Council came off the bench to make 6 of 9 shots and all seven of his free throws for the Shockers (12-8, 3-5 American Athletic Conference). Etienne sank 4 of 10 from 3-point range.
Marcus Weathers had 14 points for the Mustangs (16-5, 7-2), who scored a season-low 23 points in the first half and trailed by 16.
Emmanuel Bandoumel added 12 points as SMU saw a five-game win streak end.
THE SERIES VS. TULSA (24-33): The Mustangs have won 11 of the last 14 meetings, including the only matchup at Tulsa last season. In 2014-15, the teams met in the regular season finale when the Mustangs clinched the American Athletic Conference Championship with a 67-62 win over the Golden Hurricane in Moody Coliseum on March 8, 2015. The teams were members of the WAC from 1996 to 2005 and then Conference USA from 2005 through 2013. The series between the two schools dates back to 1919-20.

Marcus Weathers tallied 14 points and 13 rebounds to lead SMU to a 75-61 win over Tulsa on Wednesday night, the Mustangs' 16th consecutive home victory.

Kendric Davis had 26 points as SMU won its seventh straight game, edging past Tulsa 74-69 on Wednesday night in an American Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
Emmanuel Bandoumel had 13 points for SMU and

Emmanuel Bandoumel is shooting a career-high 37.8% on threes. He had a career-high six threes at East Carolina (2/12) and has has made four in a game eight times this season (SMU 7-1). He hit a driving jumper with 0.2 on the clock for the 66-64 win at [-/rv] Dayton on Dec. 5, 2020. It was his second game winner. He previously hit a three that beat the shot-clock buzzer with 30 seconds left in overtime for a 73-72 victory over [20/19] Houston on Feb. 15, 2020. HEAD COACH TIM JANKOVICH... is in his sixth season at the helm at SMU after four seasons as the associate head coach. He is in his 39th season as a collegiate coach, and his 17th as a head coach. As a head coach, he is 280-183 (.605) [123-62 at SMU (.665), including 85-17 (.833) at Moody Coliseum (started 36-0, second best in NCAA history)]. That includes a 104-64 mark at ISU where his teams recorded four top-three finishes in the Missouri Valley, reached the conference tournament final three times and earned four NIT bids. As an assistant or head coach, his teams are 628-375 (.626) with six regular season conference championships, four league tournament titles, nine NCAA Tournament appearances and nine NIT bids. This is his 12th season as the leader of a Division I program, including five as head coach at Illinois State (2007-12) and four at North Texas (1993-97). The 2017-18 Mustangs started 13-6 with three wins over ranked opponents, topping No. 2 Arizona in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament, No. 14 USC at Moody Coliseum and No. 7 Wichita State on the road. In 2016-17, SMU finished 30-5 and No. 11 in the AP poll after winning The American regular season and tournament titles en route to the NCAA Tournament. In 2015-16, he coached the Mustangs to a 9-0 start as SMU was eventually the last unbeaten team in the country at 18-0, and winning the Las Vegas Classic title during the season-opening streak. The Mustangs went 25-5, finishing the season ranked No. 24 after reaching a high of No. 8. In 2014-15, the Mustangs claimed the AAC regular season and tournament championships en route to the NCAA Tournament. SMU was the top seed in the 2014 NIT, reaching the title game.

AMERICAN/SEC ALLIANCE: The American entered into a scheduling alliance with the SEC prior to the 2019-20 season that featured four teams from each conference playing home-and-home series. SMU won 92-81 in overtime in Nashville on Jan. 4, 2020. The return game was scheduled for Dec. 8, 2020 at Moody Coliseum, but was canceled due to a COVID-19 case within the Vanderbilt program. SMU swept the home-and-home series by winning 84-72 at Moody Coliseum on Dec. 4, 2021.
TROPHY CASE: Since the start of the 2013-14 season, the Mustangs have added seven items to the trophy case. SMU won the 2014-15 and 2016-17 American Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles. SMU has also won 2019-20 Southwestern Showdown and the 2015-16 Las Vegas Classic. WIN STREAKS/START(S) IN PROGRAM HISTORY: SMU had winning streaks of 16 games and 10 games in 2016-17 in a stretch where the Mustangs won 26 of 27. In 2015-16, SMU started 18-0, which was the best start in program history, surpassing the 10-0 start by the 1997-98 team (
Tim Jankovich directed the first nine games of the 18-game streak). The 7-0 start to the 2015-16 AAC schedule was the best league start since going 12-0 en route to the 1955-56 SWC title. SMU also had a 33-game home win streak from Feb. 13, 2016 until Jan. 10 2018, which is the second-longest in program history. The 33-game home non-conference winning streak ranks second in the program (39 from 1952-1962).
