Full Schedule

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU volleyball team unveiled its 2022 schedule, the program announced on Monday.

Head coach Sam Erger's inaugural season at the helm of Mustang volleyball includes 32 matches, 13 of which will be played at Moody Coliseum. All home matches will be free to attend and available for viewing via ESPN+ subscription.

The Mustangs' 2022 slate includes five opponents which earned spots in the 2021 NCAA Tournament (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas Tech, San Diego, Utah, UCF).

SMU opens at home on Friday, August 26, hosting UC Irvine in the SMU DoubleTree Invitational. The four-team event includes host SMU, UC Irvine. DePaul, and SFA. The event marks SMU's first-ever match against DePaul, and a chance to claim back-to-back wins against SFA for the first time since 2004. SFA, a semifinal contestant in the 2021 Western Athletic Conference Tournament, fell to the Mustangs in a 3-0 shutout in last season's DoubleTree Invitational.

Nonconference play resumes with the Islanders Classic, hosted by Texas A&M - Corpus Christi on Sept. 2-3. The Mustangs open the event against Sam Houston on Sept. 2 at 10:30 a.m., followed by a 4 p.m. match against Indiana. SMU will close the weekend with a Saturday, 1 p.m.  bout with repeat Southland Conference champion Texas A&M - Corpus Christi on their home floor.

The following weekend, the Mustangs take part in the San Diego Classic, opening with a doubleheader against UCSD (2 p.m.) and Utah (7 p.m.) on Friday, Sept. 9. The Utes closed their 2021 season ranked third in the Pac 12 and ranked 21st nationally. SMU will face UConn on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 5 p.m. The Huskies closed 2021 with a 21-10 record and ranked 68th nationally.

Sept. 15-16, SMU travels to Lubbock to compete in the Red Raider Classic, in which the Mustangs will face Texas Tech (Thursday, Sept. 15, 6 p.m.), Arizona State (Friday, Sept. 16, 12 p.m.), and UTRGV (Friday, Sept. 16, 5 p.m.).

SMU opens conference play at Moody Coliseum against USF on Sept. 23. The American Athletic Conference (AAC) will play in a 20-game, double round-robin format, allowing for a home-and-away series with each AAC institution. The top team at the close of conference play will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The Mustangs closed their 2021 season with an 18-12 record, including a 9-5 mark at Moody Coliseum and 14-6 overall against AAC opponents.

From Coach Erger:
"I am looking forward to seeing this 2022 schedule come to life for my inaugural season here at SMU—especially after a spring and summer of recruiting and training a team we could not be more excited to showcase. We will have our girls ready to face some incredible programs and will never shy away from scheduling tough. Many of these teams were in the NCAA tournament last year -- a goal we are eyeing for ourselves and believe is possible. I can't wait to go to battle with our 2022 Mustangs."
