COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CSCAA/SMU) – The SMU women's swimming and diving team continues to excel in the classroom, earning College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Team honors.
Teams were selected on the basis of their spring grade-point-average, and must have achieved a 3.0 GPA. The Mustangs boasted a 3.6 GPA for the spring, up from a 3.45 GPA in the fall. The GPA also placed the Mustangs in the top 30 of the 172 DI women's programs that earned the honor, and was the highest mark in the American Athletic Conference.
SMU finished as the runner-up at the AAC Championships, compiled a 5-2 dual meet record and won the SMU Invite. The Mustangs won seven individual and two relay conference championships, while eight student-athletes accounted for 14 individual all-conference selections and all five relays were honored.
Individual Scholar All-America accolades are also forthcoming. To be selected as a member of the CSCAA Scholar All-America first team as an individual, swimmers and divers must have achieved a GPA of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Honorable mention selections have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard or competed at their respective qualifying meets.
