CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – SMU earned its second sweep of the day with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-19) triumph over Indiana Friday at the Dugan Wellness Center.
With the victory, the Mustangs improved to 4-1 on the season and 2-0 at the Islanders Classic, while the Hoosiers dropped to 3-1 overall and 0-1 in the event.
SMU led wire-to-wire in the first set. A 7-2 spurt stretched the Mustangs two-point advantage into a 20-13 cushion. After allowing the Hoosiers to close within three at 21-18, SMU extinguished the uprising with a 4-1 rally of its own to take the 1-0 lead.
Facing their first deficit of the day at 5-0, the Mustangs outscored the Hoosiers 25-14 over the remainder of the set. They hit .354 in the set and converted 12 of 19 side-out chances to erase the early Hoosier advantage.
In the third, SMU continued its dominance, holding Indiana to a negative hitting percentage. The Mustangs built a 24-16 cushion but completed the contest with the third 25-19 tally of the tilt.
Jamison Wheeler notched 11 kills – her fifth double-digit performance of the campaign. She added two service aces.
Marieke van der Mark converted eight of her 13 attacks, completing the day with a .433 hitting percentage.
Celia Cullen recorded a double-double with 27 assists and 10 digs.
Natalie Perdue added six kills, three digs and one block.
Alex Glover chipped in with five successful attacks on nine chances.
London Austin-Roark accounted for four kills, three services aces, a solo block and a block assist.
In the libero jersey,
Jadyn Bauss dug 17 attacks out and dropped in four service aces – tying her for most on the squad with
Jentry Lamirand.
The Mustangs look to go undefeated and win the tournament Saturday when they clash with the host Islanders at 1 p.m.
