NEW ORLEANS (SMU)- The (RV) SMU volleyball team earned its 10
th straight victory with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-13) sweep of Tulane on Friday night in Devlin Fieldhouse.
SMU (20-6; 14-1 overall) picked up its fourth consecutive sweep and 13th of the season. The Mustangs pieced together a complete match, doubling Tulane in kills with 46 on the way to outhitting the Green Wave .343-.122, marking the 10th time SMU has held an opponent between a .100-.199 hitting efficiency this season. SMU posted 50 digs to the Green Wave's 35 and finished with four team service aces.
Jamison Wheeler led the Mustangs with 15 kills on .306 hitting and added nine digs and two aces. Natalie Perdue posted 12 kills on .435 hitting while adding four blocks and a pair of digs.
Reigning AAC Defensive Player of the Week, Sina Uluave led the Mustangs in digs with 14 for the 15th time this season and second consecutive match. Celia Cullen passed out a team-high 36 assists. She added three digs and a kill.
Naya Shime tallied eight kills on .500 hitting, three digs, and two blocks. Emma Clothier finished with six kills, three digs, and two blocks, and Lauren Ohlinger tallied five digs and two kills. Casey Batenhorst passed out four assists and added two digs and an ace, and Brooke Frazier finished with eight digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One:
Starting the match for SMU were
Jamison Wheeler, Natalie Perdue, Emma Clothier, Alex Glover, Naya Shime, Celia Cullen, and Sina Uluave. SMU struck first after two striaght kills from Clothier. Back-to-back kills and a service ace from Wheeler put the Mustangs ahead 9-6. Two straight kills from Shime and Perdue, followed by a kill and solo block from Clothier, took the Mustangs into the media timeout with a four point lead. Three Tulane errors, a kill from Wheeler, and an assisted block with Glover scored five unanswered for the Mustangs. A Perdue kill gave SMU a 25-19 set one victory.
Set Two:
A kill and solo block from Perdue continued the Mustangs' momentum as they jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the second frame. The teams each exchanged 3-0 runs before a Perdue/Shime block, and Tulane error put SMU ahead 15-10 at the media timeout. Kills from Perdue and Clothier extended SMU's run after the pause. Two kills from Wheeler and one from Clothier and Perdue gave SMU a 23-12 lead, and a Tulane error sealed a 25-13 set two victory.
Set Three:
After jumping out to a two point lead to start the set, five straight Mustang points, highlighted by two consecutive kills from Perdue and one from Wheeler, built an 8-2 lead and forced a Green Wave timeout. A Perdue kill, a block by Shime, and one from Perdue and Glover highlighted another 5-0 run to extend the lead to 11. Three straight kills from Wheeler, Shime, and Clothier gave SMU a 19-7 lead. SMU used the separation to finish off the Green Wave 25-13.

Natalie Perdue finished with double-digit kills (12) on .435 hitting for the 15
th time this season. Perdue has tallied double digits in six out of the last nine matches. She added four blocks and two digs.
Sina Uluave led the Mustangs in digs with 14 for the 15
th time this season and second consecutive match. Uluave reached double-digits for the 20
th time this season and passed out two assists.
Celia Cullen passed out a team-high 36 assists. The senior setter has led the Mustangs in every match this season. She added three digs and a kill.
