SMU Falls To Toledo

SAN DIEGO (SMU)- The SMU women's basketball team fell to Toledo, 74-73, on a last second layup on Friday afternoon in Jenny Craig Pavilion.  

Tiara Young led the Mustangs with 18 points. The graduate guard grabbed four rebounds and passed out two assists. Reagan Bradley scored 14 points, added four rebounds, and passed out an assist, while Chantae Embry finished with six points, eight rebounds, and an assist. 

TK Pitts scored a career-high 12 points and grabbed five rebounds. The sophomore guard added two assists and tied a career-high with three steals. Tamia Jones tallied 11 points and finished with five assists, four boards, and three steals. Amirah Abdur-Rahim scored 10 points and added nine rebounds, two blocks, and an assist. 

Young hit a step-back jump shot to get the Mustangs on the board first. A Jones steal and finish in transition, followed by a pull-up jumper, extended the early lead to three. Bradley grabbed an offensive rebound and finished in traffic to spark six unanswered, putting the Mustangs ahead 14-7. Bradley finished on the drive to counter Toledo's 6-0 run and gave the Mustangs a one-point lead heading to the second quarter.

Abdur-Rahim finished a layup, and Pitts scored four points to propel SMU to a 10-2 run to start the second frame. Abdur-Rahim finished a layup, and an Embry and-one to extend SMU's lead to 12. Bradley knocked down a pair of free throws and a jump shot to extend the run to eight while holding the Rockets scoreless for over three minutes. SMU headed to halftime leading 38-24 after outscoring the Rockets 20-9 in the quarter.

Young scored back-to-back buckets on the way to eight points to start the half. SMU led by a point heading to the fourth after Toledo narrowed the gap with a 19-3 run. Toledo took the lead in the fourth quarter, but the Mustangs battled back and a Jones three-pointer gave SMU a one point lead with four seconds to play. Toledo made a layup as time expired to win 74-73.
