AUSTIN, Texas (SMU) – The SMU women's swimming and diving team fell to No. 2 Texas, 146-109, on the road Friday afternoon.
Luana Alonso,
Ashley Lugbill and
Jenna Watson picked up individual wins to lead the Mustangs.
Alonso dropped her season time in the 200-yard butterfly to win the event in 2:01.63,
Maxine Parkinson joined Alonso in the top three, finishing third in 2:04.36. Alonso completed the double with a win in the 100-yard butterfly at 54.10, with
Valentina Becerra coming in second at 55.21.
Lugbill took the top spot in the 200-yard breaststroke, touching in 2:19.16, and was followed by
Julia Yakushi in second at 2:19.51. Yakushi was also second in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:04.37.
Watson got her win in the last individual event of the evening, covering the distance in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:04.96. Parkinson was second at 2:05.89.
Freestyle standout
Lucrezia Napoletano was narrowly out-touched by .02 in the 200-yard freestyle to earn runner-up honors at 1:50.49. Napoletano was also second in the 100-yard freestyle (51.04) and third in the 50-yard freestyle (23.64).
A pair of Mustangs were in the top three of the 200-yard backstroke, with
Annabelle Corcoran leading the way in second at 2:07.05 and
Olivia Lind third at 2:08.01.
In the 500-yard freestyle,
Frederica Kizek paced SMU with a 5:13.19 for second ahead of
Katie Jordan (5:20.93) in third.
The Mustangs' 400-yard freestyle relay team of Napoletano,
Indra Vandenbussche, Alonso and
Johanna Gudmundsdottir finished second in 3:27.59.
Nicole Stambo finished fifth on both springboards, staying above the NCAA Zone standard on both. Stambo opened the day with a 292.50 on 1 meter and was just off her season best on 3 meter with a 303.30 (305.45 SB).
The Mustangs host a Pre-Conference Invite Saturday at 10 a.m. before prepping for the American Athletic Conference Championships Feb. 13-18 at The Nat.
