DALLAS (SMU)- After traveling two states on Sunday the No. 55 SMU men's tennis team went undefeated in its doubleheader against No. 35 Memphis and UT Dallas.
The Mustangs took on ranked conference opponent- No. 35 Memphis- Sunday morning in Memphis, Tenn. before traveling back to the Styslinger/ Altec Tennis Complex for its last home dual match of the season against UT Dallas where six seniors were honored.
The Mustangs began the day by outlasting No. 35 Memphis 4-2 serving the Tigers their sixth loss of the season.
"Incredibly day, incredible match," said head coach
Grant Chen. "So proud of the guys for coming out with a tremendous road win against a very good team. We knew we were in for a battle and three and a half hours later we came out with four points. We have had so many close losses so to come out with that victory was extremely rewarding."
Memphis gave SMU all it could handle on a morning in which the program celebrated its senior day. Tied 1-1 in doubles,
Julian Steinhausen and
Antonio Muniz-Hidalgo secured an 8-6 tiebreaker win to give the Mustangs the first point of the day.
Adam Neff,
Jordi Redelijk and Steinhausen clinched the match with victories in singles play.
Liam Krall and
Callaway Clark got their first and long-awaited doubles victory together on Court 2 for the first win of the day. Krall and Clark were again in a tight matchup but got a big break tied at 5-5 against Oscar Cutting and Pablo Alemany to eventually get the win at 7-5.
Adam Neff and
Kyle Sillman fell 6-4 on Court 1 to the nations 79-ranked doubles pairing of David Stevenson and Jeremy Taylor, rendering the doubles point to Court 3.
SMU and Memphis went back-and-forth all the way to a deciding tiebreaker. Steinhausen and Muniz-Hidalgo had dominate net play that ignited the big win in the tiebreaker giving SMU the 1-0 lead.
Steinhausen, Redelijk and Cloud all surrendered their first singles sets, making it all the more rewarding victory.
Adam Neff continues to reign his dominance as he picked up his 10
th straight victory this season. Neff was in a close matchup as he faces the No. 68 player in the nation of Pablo Alemany. Neff never trailed in the match as he cruised by in another ranked victory 6-2, 6-3.
The junior improves to 12-2 on the season.
Jordi Redelijk was the next court off. After surrendering his opening set 6-3 against Harry Rock, it was all Redelijk in the second and third frame as the senior rolled to a dominate 6-1, 6-3 victory putting SMU within one of the match.
Despite the 3-0 lead, the match was hardly decided. Memphis took the next two victories on Courts 6 and 3 to close in the lead.
Julian Steinhausen was looking to clinch the match at one set apiece with Jeremy Taylor on Court 4. Steinhausen rallied back from a 7-5 set one defeat, with a 6-4 victory in the second to send his match the distance. After being tied 4-4 with Taylor in the third Steinhausen held serve then broke serve to lock up the team triumph.
Moments before Steinhausen's clinch, Krall had just split sets with David Stevenson with a pair of tiebreakers leaving his match unfinished.

Julian Steinhausen were honored between doubles and singles play.
"Senior day was so special as we got to honor and recognize six of our guys- three grad students and three undergrad- a group of guys who have helped transformed the last couple years of SMU tennis," said Chen. "The impact of these guys is really tremendous, and I could not think of a better way to honor them with a special senior day at home."
SMU did not drop a set all dual picking up its 12
th match at home this season.
Jordi Redelijk and
Jack Winkler clinched first, rolling to a 6-1 takedown of Snehin Yerragudi and Nick Boquet on Court 2.
Julian Steinhausen and
Antonio Muniz-Hidalgo closed out doubles play on Court 1 shortly thereafter with a 6-3 victory over Nathan Qi and Ritvik Ganesan. Â
Johnny Zisette and
Kyle Pham led 5-3 over Eddy Shteyn and Jed De Luna as the time of the SMU doubles clinch.
Similar to doubles, the Mustangs remained in complete control of singles play.
Louis Cloud hung a pair of 6-0 bagels over Shteyn on Court 3 to give SMU the 2-0 lead.
Senior
Kyle Pham followed suit with a 6-1, 7-5 defeated over Aryan Sharma on Court 5. Pham remains undefeated throughout the dual season.
Blaine Hovenier earned his first match clincher on Court 5 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Ritvik Ganesan.
Though the match was won, play was elected to play out on the remaining courts.
Jack Winkler was the next match off as he earned a pair of 6-3 frames over his opponent Yerragudi on Court 1.
Moments later,
Alex Stafford bested Qi with a pair of 6-2 sets on Court 2 to put SMU within one of the match.
Eli Susser eased by De Luna 6-4, 6-4 to position SMU for the shutout in its final home match of the season.
