DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women's soccer team was one of two teams voted to win the American Athletic Conference Championship in the 2023 AAC Preseason Poll.
SMU acquired the third most points (50) in the poll, and received one vote to win the conference.
Votes for SMU placed the team with the second most points in the West Division. The Mustangs also received one vote to win the West Division.

SMU enters the season looking to build on the momentum of its trip to the AAC Conference Tournament Championship in
Nicole Nelson's first season as Head Coach in 2022.
Graduate Seniors
Samantha Estrada and
Wayny Balata and sophomore
Peyton Annen were all named to the AAC Preseason Watchlist.
Balata, who was also named to the 2022 All-AAC preseason team, enters the year as SMU's lead returning scorer from last season with four goals.
Estrada played and started in nine games for last season, saving 35 shots and achieving four shutouts.
Annen started in 13 games and scored one goal for the Mustangs in 2022. She was named to the 2022 AAC All-Rookie Team, as well as being selected once for the AAC Rookie of the Week.
The Mustangs first game of the season is on Thursday in Fort Worth against No. 9 TCU. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
