Annen Goal
DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women's soccer team shut out Oklahoma State at Washburne Stadium to come away with the 1-0 victory on Sunday.
The Mustangs move to 4-2-0 on the season, improving to 2-0 on the week versus Big 12 opponents after defeating Baylor 2-1 on Thursday.
The Mustangs allowed the Cowgirls, who entered Sunday's match with the nation's ninth best scoring average (3.57), only four shots on goal. Graduate Senior
Samantha Estrada made all four saves for SMU in her fifth 90-minute outing of the season.
Sophomore
Peyton Annen scored the only goal of the afternoon in the 16
th minute off a cross from fellow sophomore
Eliana Salama. Annen slid to push the ball past Oklahoma State's Grace Gordon and into the bottom of the net.
Annen's score tallied as her first goal of the season and second goal of her Mustang career. Salama's assist also marks the second of her career.
SMU jumped out to a fast pace, taking four shots in the first 11 minutes of play. The Mustangs went on to out-shoot the Cowgirls (12-9) and earn more corner kicks (4-3).
SMU has now allowed one or fewer goals in 20 of 25 matches under
Nicole Nelson's reign as Head Coach of the Mustangs.
Oklahoma State falls to 6-2-0 on the season after Sunday's loss. SMU enters AAC play with a 3-2 record over Big 12 and SEC opponents.
SMU is back in action on Thursday at Rice for its AAC opener. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
