Roderick Daniels Jr. and
Brashard Smith have been tabbed as honorable mentions for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Player of the Week, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Daniels Jr. and Smith both posted 100+-yard outings during SMU's victory over Duke in overtime.
On just two receptions, Daniels Jr. recorded a career-best 153 yards against the Blue Devils. One of his receptions was an 81-yard TD, the 15th longest touchdown reception in program history.
For the season, the senior has 293 yard receiving along with 153 on the ground for a total of three touchdowns. He also has 137 yards returning punts with a touchdown.
Smith racked up 117 yards rushing with two touchdowns during the win over the Blue Devils. This marked his third multi-rushing TD game of the season, and his fourth game with over 100 yards on the ground.
In his first season with the Mustangs, the senior has 745 yards on the ground for nine touchdowns along with 169 yards receiving with a score. He also has 213 yards returning punts, making him the only player in the nation with 700+ rushing yards, 150+ receiving yards and 200+ punt return yardage this season. Smith now has 1,125 all-purpose yards this season, an average of 140.6 per game.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically, tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals.
The nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or currently playing at Texas D1 four-year college.
In addition, the organization also awards player of the week honors to individuals across the state with standout performances on a given week.
