HOW IT HAPPENED:
SET ONE | After a kill on the first point by Tabron for the Mustangs, SMU strung together three straight to take a 3-1 lead. The clubs traded points for most of the early going in the first frame until two straight by Florida State on a kill and an attack error put the home team up 11-8. SMU responded with two of their own, coming on an attack error by the Seminoles and a kill from Okammor, which cut SMU's deficit to two. FSU got both those points back on back-to-back kills before a 4-0 run gave SMU the lead for just the second time in the first set. The Mustangs then tallied two of the next three to extend their lead to two. Kills from Tabron and Wheeler pushed the Mustangs' lead out to three (19-16). Florida State surged in front with a 6-0 run to take a 23-20 advantage, but the Mustangs answered with a big swing of their own, collecting the next four to go up 24-23. Florida State flipped the script to put themselves at set point, but SMU closed the set out with three straight kills, one from Wheeler and two from Tabron, to win the frame 27-25.  SMU hit .357 in the first set, led by Wheeler and Tabron with five kills. Cullen finished with an impressive 16 assists in the first set.

SET TWO | FSU got off to a 2-0 start to the second frame before SMU collected four of the next five to take a 4-3 lead. Similar to the first frame, neither team was able to create any separation until midway through when SMU went on a 3-0 run to go up 15-12 entering the media timeout. The Mustangs held off several short spurts by the Seminoles and forged their way to a 23-20 lead on a kill from Shime. FSU then called the next two to bring the set within a point. However, SMU closed the frame, scoring two of the final three on kills from Okammor and Tabron to win the frame 25-23. Tabron caught fire in the second set, leading the match with seven kills. The Mustangs hit .256 in the frame.

SET THREE | The Mustangs got off to their best start of any set in the third frame of the match, leading 6-2 after a 4-0 run ending on a kill from Cullen. The Seminoles showed some fight midway through the frame, taking back the lead 14-13 on an attack error by the Mustangs and then 17- 16 on back-to-back kills. Fortunately, SMU returned with a dominant stretch, scoring five out of seven to go up two (21-19). A kill from Natalia Newsome and a block from Okammor and Shime concluded the run and gave SMU the room they needed to close another sweep. SMU went on to collect four of the next six to win the frame 25-21, capped off by a kill from Okammor. Both teams had their lowest hitting percentage in the third set, but SMU controlled the next, earning five of their ten blocks in the third. The Mustangs' two starting middle had three blocks and one solo block each. Shime was the kill leader in the frame, putting down five.
