Hall Of Fame Diver And Coach Bryan Robbins Passes Away

DALLAS (SMU) – Hall of Fame SMU Diver and later Diving Coach Bryan Robbins passed away on Saturday.

Robbins was a five-time SWC champion diver and three-time All-American from 1964-68. The 1963 TAGS Diving Champion was inducted into the Texas Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame in 2012.

Robbins was also the diving coach at SMU from 1969-80, helping the Mustangs to 10 SWC team titles and nine NCAA top-10 finishes. He was the SWC Diving Coach of the Year in 1975 and 1979. In addition, he was also U.S. Diving Coach for the 1976 and 1980 Olympics as well as the 1979 World Championships.

He was inducted into the SMU Hall of Fame in 2019.

As the diving coach, he coached three members of the SMU Hall of Fame. Janet Ely (SMU HOF, '16), Michele Hain Pappas (SMU HOF, '21) and Christine Loock (SMU HOF, '14) were all inducted into the Mustangs' HOF due to their career competing under Robbins.
