Nov 5

TYLER, Texas (SPORTyler/SMU) – For the second straight week, SMU running back Brashard Smith has been named as an honorable mention for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Player of the Week, the organization announced on Tuesday.

During the Mustangs' 48-25 victory over No. 18 Pitt, Smith racked up a career-high 161 yards on the ground with two scores, along with adding 21 yards and a touchdown receiving.

The game marked his fourth multi-rushing TD game of the season, and his fifth game where he eclipsed 100 yards on the ground.

His first score of the night came on an explosive, 71-yard TD rush to give SMU a 21-3 lead early in the second quarter. Later in the second, Kevin Jennings found him for a three-yard reception to add to the Mustang lead. His third score came on an 18-yard rush early in the fourth to extend the lead to 41-11.

Smith currently ranks eighth nationally in all-purpose yards per game (145.22), 14th in total points scored (80) and rushing touchdowns (11) and 16th in rushing yards (906). In addition, Smith's 87.6 offensive grade by PFF is the sixth highest by any offensive player among all power conference teams.

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically, tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals.

The nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or currently playing at Texas D1 four-year college.

In addition, the organization also awards player of the week honors to individuals across the state with standout performances on a given week.
