KANSAS CITY, Mo. (SMU/NABC) – Junior guard
Zhuric Phelps was named NABC All-District 24 First Team on Tuesday.
Phelps is averaging team bests of 14.7 points (13
th AAC) and 1.9 steals (5
th AAC) while also recording 4.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. He is hitting 75.0% on free throws (20
th AAC) and has 14 blocked shots. He has scored in double figures in 28 of 32 games this season, including 14 straight to finish the conference season.
The All-American Athletic Conference Second-Team selection has also earned two AAC Weekly Honor Roll spots this season (Nov. 27, Feb. 12) and six weekly honors in his career. Earlier this season, Phelps was on the Fort Myers Tip-Off All-Tournament Team where the Mustangs defeated West Virginia in the semifinal before falling to Wisconsin in the championship.
Phelps became the 44th Mustang to score 1,000 points at SMU in the win at Tulane on Feb. 15. He now has 1,116 points to rank 33
rd all-time on the Hilltop. He is also seventh in career steals (155). In the overtime win over ECU on March 6, he hit the
game-tying 3-pointer with 5.4 seconds left in regulation and finished 10-for-10 at the free-throw line to become the 18
th Mustang to go perfect with at least 10 attempts.
The Mustangs (20-12) visit No. 1 Indiana State (28-6) in the first round of the
NIT on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT.
