DALLAS, Texas (SMU) -- Four Mustangs have been selected for the 2025 West First Round of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. These SMU athletes will compete this weekend with the goal of continuing their season out of regionals and onto the national championship.
Nea Sanders will be first to compete for the Mustangs in the 100m hurdles at 6 p.m. on Thursday. Sanders ran 13.41 at the ACC Championships for a new personal best. She is ranked third in SMU history.
The 400m hurdles will also take place on Thursday evening featuring two Mustangs. Kirin Chacchia and Emily Waller both advanced to this post-regular season competition. Chacchia is the current SMU record holder in the event after a performance of 57.75 at the conference championship meet. Waller also had a personal best time at the last meet, running 58.90. She is third in the SMU record books. The pair will run is scheduled to run at 8:20 p.m.
Senior Leoni Mierswa will race on Saturday evening in the 5,000. Mierswa has ran 15:56.85 in the event and is the second fastest all-time in SMU history. The race is scheduled to begin at 8:10 p.m.
