Dec. 29: Women’s Basketball Cancels Remainder of 2020-21 Season

In accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and approved by the State of Texas and Dallas County, the SMU Department of Athletics has prepared its plan for a socially-distanced gameday at Moody Coliseum for the 2020-21 basketball season. The health and safety of all who will enter Moody Coliseum is our highest priority. To all who will support the Mustangs with your physical presence in Moody Coliseum this season, thank you for being a good teammate and fighting the spread of COVID-19.

SOCIALLY-DISTANCED GAMEDAY OVERVIEW

Although we have taken numerous preventative measures to protect you and your fellow attendees, we need you to be a good teammate by following these venue protocols:
  • Maintain at least six (6) feet of distance from others
  • Wear a facial covering at all times except when eating or drinking
  • Sit in your assigned, marked seat (men’s games) or socially distance yourself from other patrons (women’s games)
  • Practice good hygiene; Wash your hands and use hand sanitizer

Seating Configuration
Capacity of Moody Coliseum has been reduced for the 2020-21 basketball season. Floor seats will be limited to the baselines. Loge seats will be available with a divider between loges. The first row of the 100 level/red seats will be eliminated to maintain proper distance from the court. The remaining 100 level and all 200 level/blue seats will be socially distanced. Suites will be available, but no standing room only tickets will be sold. For women’s games, please socially distance as seating is general admission.

Parking
Parking Website  |  Men's Basketball Gameday Parking Map
Valet parking will be suspended for the 2020-21 basketball season. Those who qualify for valet will still be allowed to park on Level 1 of the Moody Parking Center. All parking passes will be mobile only. Parking for all patrons will open 90 minutes before tipoff. Currently, there is no reduction to the number or spaces nor displacement of parking pass holders. Adjustments to parking centers and open times will be monitored throughout the season.

Pregame Hospitality/Club Access
The Miller Champions Club and the Hall of Fame Club will not be open for the 2020-21 season. This closure includes pre-game hospitality, in-game service and post-game gatherings. However, the barstools of the Hall of Fame Club will be available for purchase.

Coliseum Health & Safety Measures
Due to the enclosed nature of the facility, SMU Facilities Planning and Management has upgraded all air filters from the current MERV 10 level to the highest rated filtration level effective for SMU’s air handler systems – MERV 13. MERV 13 filters capture bacteria, tobacco smoke, sneeze contaminants and more than 90% of 1.0 – 10.0 microns and 75% of 0.3 – 1.0 microns. Additionally, all fans age three and older are strongly encouraged to wear a face covering except when eating or drinking. Hand sanitizing stations will be placed throughout the concourse and suite levels, and adjustments to food service, including contactless payment options and individually-packaged concession items, will be implemented. Increased frequency of custodial services for high-touch surfaces and restrooms will be deployed. Signage promoting recommended public health practices will be visible throughout the venue.

Season Ticket Selection Process
All season ticket holders, as well as new season ticket holders (pending availability), will be eligible to participate in a seat selection event for 2020-21 season tickets. The select-a-seat process will give season ticket holders the opportunity to select seats from a socially-distanced seating map. Approved and prohibited seats will be indicated inside the coliseum.
The select-a-seat process will take place November 12-13. Selection times will be based on Mustang Club donor rank and priority points. Only full-season tickets will be available for purchase during the select-a-seat event; no individual game tickets will be sold. Tickets will be sold in blocks of two (2) and four (4). The maximum number of seats that can be seated together is four (4). However, season ticket holders may purchase multiple blocks of two (2) or four (4) distanced from one another.

Season ticket holders are not required to participate in the select-a-seat event. Those who do not elect to participate in the 2020-21 season will retain first right of refusal on their 2019-20 seats for the 2021-22 season. Donations already made for the purpose of purchasing basketball season tickets may be:
  1. Converted into a 100% tax-deductible contribution for the 2020 giving cycle
  2. Rolled forward as a membership pre-pay for the 2021 giving cycle

All participating season ticket holders will be required to acknowledge a “Good Teammate Pledge” agreeing to adhere to public health guidelines. This pledge can be found in the terms & conditions portion of the select-a-seat process.

FAQs

While there are many questions that remain unanswered, the SMU Department of Athletics is steadfast in its commitment of public health and safety. We ask for your patience with us during these truly unprecedented times as we attempt to make the best decisions for our donors, fans, employees and student-athletes. That being said, here is a list of FAQs to help guide your decisions for the 2020-21 basketball season.

Q: Am I required to wear a face covering?
A: All patrons 3 years old and older are strongly encouraged to wear a face covering while in the coliseum.

Q: Will season ticket prices remain the same?
A: Yes.

Q: Will I be able to see which seats are available before my appointment time?
A: Yes.

Q: If I am dissatisfied with the available seating at the time of my seat selection appointment, may I opt out and not be charged?
A: Yes, if you don’t select a seat during the seat selection process, you will not be charged.

Q: May I purchase more tickets than I have in the past?
A: Yes, but please note that the maximum number of tickets that can be purchased together is four (4). However, multiple blocks of two (2) or four (4) may be purchased to reach the desired total number of season tickets.

Q: Can I only purchase a portion of a seating block?
A: No; fans must purchase the entire block. Multiple groups purchasing in the same block would violate social distancing guidelines.

Q: Will parking be affected?
A: Valet is suspended for the season, but parking has not been eliminated nor relocated for any current parking spaces.

Q: Will health screens be required to enter Moody Coliseum?
A: No; however, we are asking fans to self-screen before arriving and not to attend if exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms.

Q: Can my whole family sit together?
A: Yes, families may sit together without social distancing themselves from one another, provided they are sitting in purchased, assigned seats and that a ticket has been purchased for anyone over the age of 2.

Q: What is preventing fans from sitting in non-distanced seats?
A: Prohibited seats will be removed to prevent use. Additionally, we ask for your cooperation by sitting in the seat that you selected during the select-a-seat event.

Q: How will I receive my tickets?
A: To create a contact-less entry to Moody Coliseum, SMU Athletics has moved to a mobile-only ticket scanning process. Tickets may be mailed or left at will call for a $10 fee per request.

Q: Will restrooms be open?
A: Yes.

Q: Is movement allowed between suites?
A: No.

Q: Are fans allowed on the court following the conclusion of the game?
A: No. Only pre-approved, health-screened coaches, staff, and officials are allowed on the court at any time.

Q: What if all or part of the season is interrupted?
A: In a spirit of flexibility, we will work with our season ticket holders to provide credit to future seasons or a refund if desired.

Q: Are concessions be available?
A: Yes. Concessions will be different in 2020, though, with menus changed to predominantly pre-packaged items for food handling safety and speed of service.

Stanchions will help maintain social distancing in concessions lines, and high-touch areas such as condiment locations have been eliminated. All transactions will be cashless, with credit cards, Apple Pay and Grubhub accepted at all locations.
